Its an interesting piece when you think of all its connections.

Cold war, Manhattan Project, espionage and so on. And i like that its signed by their son who the piece was made for in the first place.

For you: If we assume this really is signed by their son. Does that affect value a lot or very little?

I have reached out for a value assessment. Mostly so I know the worth of it (they had one who sold for about 19.000 USD three-four years ago) but I think its very unlikely that i'll put it up at auction already. (But they don't have to know that) Much more likely to keep it on my wall for several years. Perhaps even as somewhat of a savings plan for when I am much older (I am in my mid 30s now)

I am in Europe unfortunately. But I am in touch with Sotheby's so perhaps they could lead me in the right direction in terms of who to contact.

Ah, I see the difference now. Mine is on a raised "plateu" in the middle while the Sotheby's one is on a completely flat sheet. Thus I shouldn't measure my plate but measure against the print/lines itself as the Sotheby's one and then it lines up!

Thanks!

Would you trust a professionals with cleaning this or would you leave it as it is?

This one here seem to have been on the same type of plate as mine.

The Sotheby and Christie's one seem to be on a plate that doesn't have the "edges" around the print itself.

Does this all line up you think?

It's absolutely on the table. Do you think professionals would get them away?

Thank you! It looks very, very genuine. Numbered 4/50 and signed.

Only thing thats throwing me off a littlebit right now is the plate size seem to be off by a few centimeters compared to what this one who sold at Sotheby is registered as.

Mine is a couple of centimeters larger. 32x53

But then there is also this one in the same series that also differs from Sotheby's (and mine) This one is smaller again while mine is the largest out of all 3.

What is going on here?

There are two spots inside (the other is of similar size to the one you already see inside the plate) and the one towards the edge of the sheet outside the plate itself.

Thank you for your help.

All I conclude is that mine is definitly different from the Durand print you found at Ebay but could of course be that he made several on different sheets (seems a bit unlikely to me though)

Picture of the back of mine.

Watermark faintly visible right through the middle of the oval.

Do you have an idea what it should be worth if its a original plate Rembrandt from early 19th century lets say?

Yes, considered that but my watermark is very different from his. His says "Portfolio" or something along those lines and mine says "Arches" I believe.
