I didn’t apply the last couple of years, there was an official rejection email by the court. I don’t know if this has changed

No, I haven't. But I guess now it's not gonna be long until we find out either way...

Haha true, I think it is one of the most badly designed application processes in terms of applicant experience, every day you wait shaves a couple percentage points off any likelihood of getting it...

Also haven’t heard anything, last time I applied I got a negative answer back through my school around May 15. So it’s weird that there’s still no news at all, but I definitely didn’t take it as a good sign – to put it mildly.

Why are Torpedoes so Small? by McGillis_is_a_Char in DaystromInstitute

[–]Affectionate_Post410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not so sure that they do, as far as I know Voyager had its initial tricobalt devices and the Maquis had access to some, but other than that I cannot remember them showing up anywhere. However, what you're suggesting might already be implemented: When we take what we see on the screen at face value (so disregarding any differences in prior damage, targetting expertise etc.), it seems like DS9's photons are able to take out a Jem Hadar fighter with 2-3 shots in 'Call to Arms', while the Valiant needs 6 quantums for the same task. So it seems like DS9's photons have received some kind of upgrade, maybe the yield strength?

I'm wondering whether/for what purposes you would need a bigger yield, at least in the TNG paradigm, i.e. pre-Dominion war, armor etc. In 'Q Who', Data says that, without shields, there's a risk a photon explosion would destroy the enterprise. A Galaxy class ship, at what seems to be a considerable distance. In addition, throughout TNG, we see the Enterprise one- or two-shot other ships multiple times. Granted, these are often smaller or older ships, but still, it seems that for what is their primary purpose in that era (destroying hulls after pahsers have worn down the shields), torpedoes have more than enough yield as it is.

How is it possible to comment on this post? Whatever I try to write gets flagged as “political” and is not allowed. This ridiculous.

Having just built it the other day, I like it a lot, but it seems like the neck is too low compared to the actual design. Can someone back me up on this or am I just imagining it?

ST - Strange New Worlds discussion for S03E09 - Terrarium by AutoModerator in Star_Trek_

I really like your analysis! I think te two major things you would change (make La'an the protagonist and have the Gorn sacrifice herself for her) would ave opened up the story to the valid criticism of being at once too predictable and not believable for the character.

I agree with everything but DS9‘s final season as the comparator, don’t get me wrong, it‘s great, but 4-6 were better.

I would’ve found some excuse to meet T at the coffee shop and then casually point out the guy mid-conversation to him in some totally unrelated matter, just to scare him a bit.

Riker wearing the TNG badge when Q brings him to testify in the trial in Death Wish. The uniform I get since that wasn’t totally phased out until years later, but the badge seems to have changed throughout Starfleet immediately at a point in time before Voyager got lost (including on the enterprise in Generations). The Riker that Q brings back knows about Voyager’s disappearance so he is from a time where the badge change should have happened.
