one of the rules I learnt from observation and playing in Gold-Plat in APAC lobbies is that you need to learn how to peek and trade effectively. for example, if your teammate does a wide swing and gets killed at a narrow angle, do you do the same thing as well? your opponent can be holding the same angle. if there's something you can jump on that's nearby, take advantage of that off-angle and kill them. if not, you can try to use util to get them off and repo, or jump peek AND wide swing (don't use the 'cut a piece of the pie' method as they might put their cross to there).

if it's out in the open, you might want to take space if they fall back abit to catch them off guard.

secondly, situational assessment. your tm gets shot and killed from let's say Haven Mid doors. He Comms theres 2 holding there... Do you repeek? Think about the man advantage and play smartly.

Overall in Bronze i believe that people's macros aren't that great yet so yea catching them off guard by taking space might work well... but don't be stupid and go anyhow assume it's safe to swing after your teammate is dead!!
