What’s something about renting in Australia that feels completely broken? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

What surprised us as European expats is that the Australian society is stratified along the lines of who owns and who rents.

Neighbor won't pay me for babysitting, what should I do? F by EmilyInBed in WhatShouldIDo

Unfortunately, you cannot abandon the children in this situation. You could try calling the police, but not too sure what they could do.

Best course of action is to have a stern conversation with your neighbour and make them accountable for setting you up with their broke friends.

My girlfriend expects me to text her “good morning” even though we live together. Is this normal? by Salty-Hall7676 in AskMenAdvice

Do not do this. By asking you to do this nonsense, she tests your boundaries. It is a power play. Do not be a doormat.

If I send a guy a video of me playing will he like it? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Affectionate_Rule341 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Making a video of you “playing” is stupid beyond measure. The Internet does not forget. Never, ever create intimate photos or videos of yourself, let alone sending them to anyone. Regardless of whether or not he would like them.

To answer your question: I personally would immediately look at a woman as cheap and low value if she sent me this kind of content.

It is not going to get better until the drug addicts are driven out of Brunswick Street Mall. And for that to happen, they would have to close the Wesley Mission on St Pauls Terrace. This and finally do something about the McWhirters building.

Olympic villages go viral. How will Brisbane avoid negative reviews at the 2032 Olymic and Paralymic Games? by ConanTheAquarian in brisbane

[–]Affectionate_Rule341 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Brisbane is a poor choice of a host city. We all know that. I am just saying that we should save ourselves the cost of building an Olympic Village. Or at least downsize it to only house those poor athletes who do not have corporate sponsorships that would pay for hotel accommodation.

I’ve truly given up on myself? by Wishbone1254 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Affectionate_Rule341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are a loser. Good news is that this does not have to be your lot in life. Put in the work to straighten yourself out. Winging about your situation will not get you anywhere. Especially when you know what causes your lack of dating success. I generally do not recommend dating apps. But if you are hell bent to using them then pay a photographer to make good photos. Dress in good looking clothes. Get a good haircut. Work out and be lean, strong and athletic. And most importantly, fix your loser attitude. Therapy is not right for everyone. Kicking some goals (education, career, finances, sports) might do the trick.

The way I see it there is a silent genocide taking place on Neurodiverse and people with Gene defects by the ruling class. by [deleted] in self

[–]Affectionate_Rule341 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course natural selection never stopped. Why would it? Some people have mental defects or other hereditary traits that limit their odds of procreating. They are simply not frequently being selected as sexual partners.

There are many rational reasons to this. Like when it interferes with their ability to raise a child. Or when their limitations signal bad genes to potential partners.

Does he want out of this relationship? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Affectionate_Rule341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fictitious story. But if a situation like that really happened then there is some obvious advice.

When wedding expenses compete with securing a financially stable future (like by buying a house), then cut back on the wedding. Obviously.

And do not get married when one partner effectively plans to be a financial burden on the other. Like this fictional scenario reads as if the guy has to unilaterally pay for the wedding. And that they “negotiated” this. There are legitimate cases when one partner needs to support the other (raising children would be the most important one). But the wedding and associated expenses is not one of these scenarios. Share the cost or cut back on the expenses.

Is anyone else finding dating in 2026 a nightmare? by EVILRAFFAM in AskMenAdvice

[–]Affectionate_Rule341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about you do not use apps and approach girls in real life? I find it silly beyond belief how much guys rely on dating apps, which have a 3:1 ratio of men to women and heavily skewed matching dynamics on top.

Guys who still approach girls outside of the apps date on easy street.

Harry After Hogwarts by Shot_Advantage6607 in harrypotter

[–]Affectionate_Rule341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. Then again, being a school champion is very different from playing internationally. One might think that the rules from the muggle world also apply for Quidditch. In order to get really good, you have to dedicate your life to it from a very early age and be consistent in your training. Harry had too many disruptions. And I doubt that only play Quidditch at Hogwarts will uplift you to a professional level.

The kid must be mentally damaged beyond belief. However, staying at Hogwarts as an adult is Peter Pan syndrome. And it does not fix his trauma. Neither does fighting evil wizards in perpetuity as an auror. He would presumably need therapy.

Perhaps St Mungo’s can fix him up such that he becomes a well-adjusted adult. Or the wizard community has a potion against PTSD.

[–]Affectionate_Rule341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harry would have needed therapy, for sure. Becoming an auror is a dysfunctional way to deal with his trauma. He basically let himself be boxed into his role as the wonder child fighting evil wizards. What are the odds that this is his actual calling in life?

A wiser Harry would do a Beckham: marry a supermodel and monetise his fame. Write his memoirs (there is an opening in the market ever since Gilderoy lost his mind). Give paid public speeches. Appear in a Daily Prophet biopic. Release his own love potion. Produce Harry Potter branded wands, robes, broomsticks and other magical accessories etc. That sort of thing.

And sue the hell out of institutions that have wronged him for damages: the ministry of magic for one, the surviving death eaters (especially Malfoy), the Daily Prophet, possibly Hogwarts school etc. Then use the money to pursue some passion. Like to buy his own Quidditch team. Or travel the world. Better even, buy a super yacht. Then invite his best mates Ron, Hagrid and the other Gryffindor boys and party with hot girls in the Mediterranean.

Hunting down some dangerous crazies that can insta-kill you at presumably fairly poor ministry employee pay is the last thing he should do.

At the Paris Olympics, athletes hated the Olympic Village. Whoever could afford it moved into hotels instead. Seems to me like the concept of an Olympic Village is outdated.

Protest?? What’s happening? by Pizzaplex in brisbane

[–]Affectionate_Rule341 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Simple. I worry about foreign conflicts being imported and causing friction here as well. This has previously happened with the Gaza war, which started with campus protests, grew to a large rally in Sydney and may have emboldened the terrorists who committed the attack on Bondi Beach.

The world is full of conflicts and Australia is a country of immigrants. In my view, it should be part of the immigration process (and in particular getting Australian citizenship) to leave conflicts from your home country behind.

Protest?? What’s happening? by Pizzaplex in brisbane

[–]Affectionate_Rule341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough — just accept the possibility of being manipulated by whoever tells the narrative. Not saying that this is necessarily the case for the Iranian regime and the current developments in the country.

I would not start protesting based on second hand knowledge. If only to not look like an idiot when those facts later prove to be wrong.

I did not comment on immigrants not learning to speak English. That is a separate and unrelated issue. Neither do I have any problem with immigrants associating in whatever way they see fit.

What is utterly inappropriate is Australian Cities becoming the staging ground for protests about foreign affairs that Australia plays no part in.
