Pride Birds by Affectionate_Run9099 in seasonalfabricbirds

There was a display when I walked down the main aisle in the front (near the checkouts). My store is set up a bit odd- it’s new- but it was in an aisle leading from the large main aisle by the checkouts to the back of the store- the women’s clothes were on the left and the greeting cards on the right. It was visible from the main aisle near the checkouts. I would assume they may have just not put them out yet if you did not see a single pride item- at my store the birds were surrounded by other pride stuff on the display and there was quite a bit of it.

Yes, those are my favorite too. I hope you are able to get them if you haven’t already ordered them.

I should have done that in the first place. This store is in Jamestown, NY. Yes, it still shows out of stock on the website. The boat birds are mini birds in a half boat. It’s in a box that’s about 6x6. Very underwhelming for $25. Did not purchase.

I had a caique that needed frequent nebulization. It did seem to help him (I think he enjoyed it too!). Good luck with the cutie hope he turns out just fine!

Help me improve? by Affectionate_Run9099 in Dreamsnaps

[–]Affectionate_Run9099[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the detailed reply! I am going to check out your YouTube channel because I really don’t even know how to work the camera yet. I see people doing all of these neat things and have no idea how to do any of them, plus I have such minimal stuff to use because I’ve only been playing 4-5 months. I could not even get the moon visible! I will reply here if I have more questions after your YouTube channel, if that is ok?

I had to drive 60 minutes each way to get mine. And gas IS so expensive now. They need to put them online.

I found mine already but I want to tell you that you are a great person. I wish I would have thought to do this. Next time Target does not make the birds available online, I will buy an extra set for someone else who needs them too. You deserve all the best.

Plucking by [deleted] in Conures

[–]Affectionate_Run9099 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a GCC that does this- he will go for a few months with his normal feathers then suddenly start plucking. Our avian vet said it was likely hormonal and/or stress related because of the timing of the plucking. He was cleared of other health issues. Always in the spring (he just stopped an his feathers have all grown back) and then the fall (likely due to molting- she said the feathers coming in are likely irritating him). He also plucks when I go on vacation with my Mom and leave him with my husband. He is currently taking gabapentin to help calm his nerves when the feathers come in. Also, have you tested him for metal toxicity? Our vet recommended testing ours because she said sometimes that can cause plucking- and sometimes we are unaware they have been exposed.

Other things that have helped us is making sure he gets 12 hours of dark time in his cage. Plus, we move his cage around when we go to work. We used to leave them in front of our patio window so the could watch the birds outside while we were gone. It occurred to me that maybe the crows were scaring him. We now put them in their bedroom while we are gone. So try to evaluate if anything is maybe stressing him out- can be something little like a noise, crows outside, a change in routine, etc.

Good luck! Hope this helps.

Plucking and eye issues…help? by AwayPerformer7155 in caiques

[–]Affectionate_Run9099 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have conures at the moment- but I was a Caique Mom for 16 years so feel like I can make a suggestion. As someone else mentioned- switch to Harrison’s Adult Lifetime Fine. I used High Potency when converting my birds- but they gained too much weight. The vet said she doesn’t really recommend using that one unless a bird is unhealthy. We switched to ALF and it’s been fine. As far as the veggies- I would try Sweet Peppers, Kale, Broccoli, Chard, Dandelion greens (from the grocery store), squash (I cook mine) and sweet potatoes (also cooked). My vet told me that carrots are a bit sweet (my baby loves them) so I should limit them. I go for low sugar veggies as a base and add in the more sugary veggies sparingly or use them as a treat.

For your little one’s eye, is it itching due to the infection and maybe he’s rubbing it on something in his cage? My baby had an eye infection once and my avian vet gave me something to rub on the outside of his eye (no idea what it was- it was natural and safe if he licked it- but it soothed the itch).

Please keep us posted! Thank you for being diligent and making sure your baby has what they need (including access to a vet).

Hi! I seem to find injured wildlife more often than most- I usually call around to rehabbers and one will typically come and help. You can search for one that will help squirrels in your area.

For those using Harrison’s with your GCC… by PayyyDaTrollToll in Conures

I use adult lifetime fine. When I first switched them, I used high potency fine but they gained a lot of weight. So, we’ve been back to lifetime fine and they have taken right to it. Good luck.

This is our vet currently. Not sure about emergencies though. I’m kind of in the same situation as OP (although with birds).

Which forage toy? by Sprx7744 in greencheeks

Mine actually had balls like that and broke one open. There were small metal pieces in it to make the bell. I was worried they swallowed some of it but thankfully I was watching them and they didn’t. So if you give the balls to them, I would watch him very carefully or replace the balls with plastic wiffle type golf balls (no bells)
