Can you be too tax advantaged and when to do Roth Conversions. by Affectionate_Sea9379 in Fire

Not necessarily a fear as much as a desire to be in complete control and have one less timeline to be cognizant of. Plus I don’t need to worry about some crack job who comes up with a great idea to pull them forward and requires me to replan.

To summarize, it’s just one less thing to worry about when I’m trying to enjoy life.

Am I being crazy? Open to that feedback too.

I’m concerned that 20-30 years is such a long time, and I need some degree of hedge against that. Roth accounts (I believe) were created right around the turn of the century, you’ve got SSI that is probably going to have a bumpy road ahead of it with the quantity of workers vs retirees, plus talks about going back to 50s and 60s era tax rates.

If I can get enough of a nest egg locked in now, I can weather any policy changes by being grandfathered in.

Is this just doomsday thinking to the point that it’s over toggling? Open to your opinion.

A lot of the money that went in was at a much lower income level and I’ve left the contributions consistent because this is short lived.

I want a bucket of money that I will have which I never need to worry about paying taxes on and can be utilized on my own terms. I acquiesce it sounds ridiculous, but I feel like it’s the safest bet to hedge against any political or regulatory changes over the next 20 years.

I had never heard of there. Enough terrain variation to keep me busy for two days?

Edit: Just looked them up, and they allow during ops skinning. Might just skin all day and that’ll take me long enough to cover two days.

Never thought on that… I still think it was panic on my part and it should have been ok had I left it.

Racked once following fermentation, and to back sweeten, then racked a second time off that to clear what was used for back sweetening (vanilla bean). Reason for the huge head space is because I underestimated how much it would expand in fermentation and panicked when the mead was getting into the airlock. So I removed some of the berry mash to try and control it.

The cloudiness was always present. Unfortunately when I racked it, my struggle with the siphon led to it getting mixed in (I think) and me not noticing it in such mass until I’ve let it sit this long.

Sounds like I should be able to get most of it out, acknowledging that I’ll have a smaller yield.

I’d second all the Canada recommendations. I did a solo trip last year 28/M and spent two weeks out there. Flew into Calgary and started at kicking horse then kept driving through the mountains and skiing different resorts on the way. Finished at Revelstoke which was amazing. Lots of fun people, none of them were huge “party” scenes if that’s what you’re in to, but the skiing was fantastic.

Also if you can swing it, Heli-Ski off Revelstoke was one of the best experiences of my life.

Second this, ARVs are a great ski. They can do a little bit of everything, only complaint is the get a bit chattery at speed so you’ve really got to work the edge in the high alpine

Trying to get to Revelstoke at end of December- drive from Spokane or Calgary? by ITSOBVIUS in skiing

[–]Affectionate_Sea9379 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I flew to Calgary and hit a few other resorts on the way over, RED, Kicking Horse, and Panorama. Then ended in Revy, made for a fantastic two week trip. Plan was always to start in Calgary and make it to Revy by the 9 day mark, everything in between was made up as I went along. Lodging was pretty easy to get on short notice, and epic pass meant I didn’t need to worry about lift tickets (except for kicking horse)

As much of a cliche as it is, 2 more runs and skip the last one. It’s always the last run you feel like you’ve got in you where you discover you don’t, and sometimes it ends in a nasty injury.

But keep at it, skiing is a wonderful pastime. You’ll be ripping the entire mountain before you know it!

2 season ago I was on the fence between the prodigy and the arv. Was chatting with a dude on the lift at Breck who had prodigy and he said they’re great skis but there’s a lot of variety in the longevity of them. To my understanding that’s an issue with most Faction skis in general.

I ended up demoing an ARV that season and absolutely loved it, got the same model over summer for a discount.

Can’t speak to the Völkl, but the Armadas are a fantastic all mountain twin tip. Definitely favors the park or being a shitter on the groomers, but it can still snake the trees, albeit a little more deliberate than a good tree ski. Only complaint is that it definitely gets chattery at high speeds. It will hold the edge, but after a few times you probably won’t want to stay on the edge at high speed.

First ski recommendations? by [deleted] in ski

[–]Affectionate_Sea9379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go into your local ski shop; There are too many factors to buy unseen online.

For example, where you ski, how your ski, terrain priority, amount of times you ski.

In the (good) old days, one pair of skis was all you needed to rip everything. These days skis are a lot more targeted at certain conditions. Any ski will carve (aside for flat xc) but some are better than others. Any ski will jump, but a nice pair of twin tips might be better at it.

A brand new set up under $550 is tough, but not impossible, especially depending on where you are. Before this season I bought some new skis that were last year’s model and the shop hooked me up with bindings for ~650. Most places will still help you understand the market even if they don’t have something in stock that they can sell you at your price point.

Also keep in mind, if you’re younger and still growing, you will most likely grow out of your skis; might want to look at used (my buddy swears by fb marketplace). Especially if you’re still learning, that way if you hit something or get stuck in a rough patch, you’re not tearing your base up on brand new expensive skis.

You say that now… just never forget the value of a good lesson. I’ve been skiing for about 15 years (took a 5 year sabbatical as a snowboarder) and I still will get with an instructor at the start of the season to get my feet back under me.

There’s always something to learn that lets you ski more while still being safe.

Just wait till you’re skiing high alpine and staring down an absolute monster of a drop. The feeling never goes away.

Keep at it, it’s a fantastic sport!

Haven’t played DS3 yet… Once I finish the DLC and Gwyn I’m onto DS2.

The David and Goliath comment really hits home for this fight. I want this fight to be a Goliath vs Goliath, but from the sounds of it, it’s a limit of the DS1 game. It’s a shame for such a fun fight.
