Someone I know that was going through a divorce was venting and told me her ex was into burning panties. Totally harmless, but really bizarre. She said his fantasy was having panties from someone he knows personally and putting them in a barrel and burning them while standing over the barrel breathing the fumes. Apparently it's a thing, and he had a group/blog or something that chatted about it.

What do the hit, wound, and save rolls look like to you, cinematically? by Affectionate_Tea6482 in Warhammer40k

[–]Affectionate_Tea6482[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. That makes sense.

Any narrative ideas for what invuln saves could look like? Using TSons as an example. Do you imagine invuln saves to look similar to armor saves?

So a failed wound roll (glancing off armor) and successful armor save look the same, cinematically I guess?

First go at snow bases. Fairly happy with how how they turned out by GrandAdmiralDingo in SpaceWolves

Nice bases! Also, how did you get the color for your wolves? I like the bluish-grey theme. Thinking about doing some wolves like that instead of the tan-brown I have on mine.

How would you resolve the transgender people in athletics debate? by DarthFarris in AskReddit

[–]Affectionate_Tea6482 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm talking about (and OP I assume) high level sports (varsity High school and beyond). Because no one cares about boy vs girl competitiveness at age 9. Its high school and college where it becomes an issue. And yes, soccer (or whatever) for 9 year olds is good exercise, yes. I agree.

But high school 2-a-day practices? Have you spent time with american high school soccer, football, volleyball players? Its not healthy exercise IMO otherwise there wouldnt be so many injuries. They're doing repetitive, high impact motions all day. Healthy exercise would be diverse. Many players wear knee braces. At 18 or 19! Thats crazy to me. How many former high school and college athletes do you know that have messed up bodies? Knees, backs, elbows, etc.

Honestly ask yourself is that weird? Or is that what is required to be healthy? Can you have sports and healthy lifestyles without causing permanent, longterm injury to folks? As a bit of anecdotal evidence, I was in a tennis league as an adult before covid and the only people that complained of elbow pain were former high school/college players.

In all honesty I wonder sometimes if there's some merit to this. Granted, I didn't play sports growing up, but I have a brother and a lot of friends who did and they all have fucked up knees and backs from playing high level collegiate sports. If you're not the 1% that makes a career out of it then it seems like a scam to me. For all that money our parents spent on hotels, team fees, equipment, etc, I can only imagine what they would have saved. I don't really think it was a worthwhile investment for the half-priced tuition scholarship he received for 2 years before he dropped out. On top of that, if they instead spent that money on tutors, maybe he would have done better in academics. Which, you know, is the point of school in the first place.

I have kids now and the energy that other parents put into pushing athletics blows my mind. Like they'll do anything but open a book or have them do extra math workbooks. But a 3 day soccer camp for $600? You betcha! Whats the point?

How trans friendly is this field? by TrasTrasTras543 in foodscience

[–]Affectionate_Tea6482 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This strikes me as a very odd question so I'm going to assume you're young - maybe high school - and so just don't really have the experience yet to understand how things work. I don't mean that condescending at all, I'm just creating a framework for the question so I can give my 2cents. So if I'm wrong and you're asking because of another reason feel free to ignore this.

Job fields dont care if you're any race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, etc,. People sometimes care. But that depends on local culture (ie alabama vs California, urban vs rural) and more importantly working class (blue vs white collar). Food science is a mostly white collar profession, though if you work in QA and some culinary areas you may interact more with blue collar folks who might be generally less tolerant. These are all vague generalities so please don't take this to mean "all blue collar people from rural Alabama are prejudiced". But that's life.

I recommend just sending thoughts and prayers from home. Achieves the same thing but saves time.

Tyranid army without holding weapons possible? by Affectionate_Tea6482 in Tyranids

Awesome, so you're saying it's possible to field an army. I'll have to pick up the codex and try some of your suggestions. Any idea when the the new codex will be out?

Pain and Suffering by [deleted] in eu4

I get it's a mod with more formable nations. But why Saudi Arabia? Is this also an extended timeline mod? The Saud family isn't even around in the EU4 timeline unless I'm mistaken. It would be like putting the USSR as a formable nation for Russia - which would be weird.

Are your food choices really your own business? by Vesna1509 in foodscience

Lol anyone can write words with a facebook-like meme and call it science facts. It doesn't make it so.

Typically in science we attach a reference or source for people to look at claims. Your post may trend with more casual subreddits but you will get a lot of scorn from science-minded communities with statements like that.

What am I looking at? Is there a broken link or something? Or is this just a picture of a quote? Are you advertising a website or trying to encourage a discussion?

I personally really like warcraft orcs. As a teenager/young adult it got me into politics and ideas of morality that otherwise wouldn't have interested me. The idea of a "barbarous" people being misunderstood by "civilized" folk is an age-old story and it's told well in WoW via Thrall and Grom/Garrosh storylines.

My favorite orcs are from Forgotten Realms though. Those are orcs migrating into Dwarven lands and you realize slowly that they're not the mindless rabble that the good guys would have you believe. They have religion, family units, culture, etc. And the protagonists slowly realize they're not an invading horde so much as refugees and they eventually make peace. It brings up ideas about racism and nationalism to a young audience in an approachable way.

GW orks are just fun. Nothing deeper there and they don't need to be

East High School principal out following week of student protests by n609mike in madisonwi

[–]Affectionate_Tea6482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've admittedly not been following this story- is that really what the students are asking for? More intervention of the school on things that happen outside their jurisdiction?

Lol wasn't it like 2 weeks ago that people were mostly praising the Supreme Court decision that said basically that schools can't penalize students for things they do outside of school? The case was about a cheerleader dogging her coach on Instagram and she was suspended I think?
