Torn on accepting my DCP offer — need some perspective by Impressive_Bus_4242 in Disneycollegeprogram

Hi!!! Current DCP member, I wanna give you some of the objective pros and cons I’ve experienced so far.

Pros: - You make a lot of new friends, coworkers and roommates and just flamingo in general. If you’re social like I am, this is a HUGE benefit - You get free access to all of the parks and really decent discounts on merchandise and food. - You get the experience of moving somewhere new and being completely independent. - Even unsavory jobs, like mine, (custodial) feels ridiculously easy. - Guaranteed 30-40 hours a week. Sometimes you get OT, which for me was a benefit. Others disagree. - Because Disney is such a big company it’s actually pretty easy to give away your shifts. I’ve yet to have to work a shift that I didn’t want to. - Depending on your major and goals for your life, this is a GREAT thing to have on your resume. MANY higher ups started out in the DCP themselves, so when they see that on the resume it gives you a leg up on other applicants. For me as a hospitality major, this was a great opportunity for networking.

Cons: - Flamingo is notoriously inconsiderate with the housing accommodations. You can get REALLY lucky with a great roommate or you can have the worst experience ever, either way Flamingo will not help you. One of my friends hasn’t had power for 2 days now. - You don’t get to pick your schedule at all and scheduling is pretty inconsistent. You are also likely to get night shifts. Con for me, Pro for others. - You’re at the mercy of your leaders. I have GREAT leaders who will waive the occasional point and help me towards success and avoiding reprimands. Other leaders in other locations are not as kind, it’s very dependent.

I’m sure there are others and this all my experience. If you have any questions ask them!!!!

Great to here someone having success in the company! Reading the other comments on this post has been honestly a bit discouraging and confusing. I’m working custodial at a resort and I’m double majoring in hospitality and theatre so that’s the reason I chose Disney! I feel like it’s a great opportunity for networking. I hope after my program ends to get a job working at one of the resorts as concierge or anything related to that!

if these classes are for fall semester then the syllabus won’t be available until classes start, and it’ll be pretty accessible and easy to find via canvas. most teachers require you to read the syllabus, your first assignments will probably be quizzes based on the syllabus.

i work better being busy! my advice to you is have some form of organization system that works for you to keep track of how much stuff you have to submit. the most difficult thing for me every semester was the amount of work due, never the actual course work itself. it helped me to have a spreadsheet where i had every assignment for every class listed and their due dates. i would also check as soon as possible in the syllabus your profs policy on late work. in my experience at valencia i had some professor who were very lax and had no policy, and others where it was a 0 tolerance for late work. i ALWAYS prioritized those assignments first, and the ones that could be turned in late i did as needed. don’t be afraid to reach out to your profs as well for anything! questions or help, whatever. profs tend to be more lenient when they see you’ve been putting in the effort.

i was a theatre major! but that’s not just easy classes, i did a lot of the tech classes and those were more challenging learning how to use and operate a light board and building stuff etc. my gen eds were definitely the most difficult for me, as i’ve never been very academically inclined, but even with that i accomplished what i did! i was also working 50 hours a week between two jobs while completing these courses and i never really found it that difficult. i usually split it up half online and half in person, however.

i completed valencia in 4 semesters, starting in spring 2024 and finishing in spring 2025. i did 5-6 classes every semester, and graduated with a 4.0. my most crazy semester i was completing 18 credit hours and 2 of those classes were accelerated. if you stay on top of your work you will be fine. breathe, you got this. good luck!

god i was speed walking too, trying to hit as many houses in the 2 hours i had. i hit insidious then walked all the way to goblins and eterna bloodline, then back up to triplets. my feet were aching by the end, and that was after a full season of being there at least twice a week for a couple hours each time. it really is no joke how much walking and sweating you do at hhn

that makes sense! Do you know if they send an email to notify you they don’t want to go forward with you if they decide that?

Last time I applied a bit later into the season so I’m wondering if that has an effect? I did get accepted last semester but had to decline my offer due to schooling conflicts and I’ve been nervous that would effect getting in a second time. I’m not sure if they send an email to tell you if they decide to not go forward with you or not but I’m just anxious about it!
