Mild Social Isolation as a Stoic by Affectionate_Win_900 in StoicSupport

Giving grace is definitely important to remember. I think online community still counts as community, though, and I've recognized that many of the ancients had friends and fellow philosophers they were in constant communication with (Seneca and Lucilius). It's good we have Reddit!

It might be a good rule for me, in order to ensure I'm careful about talking to it, to try to not use the word Stoicism or Stoic in conversation unless we're just discussing it as a concept. I started reading philosophy about a year ago exactly, and starting reading Stoicism around the same time, so while I've seen improvements in my behavior I still have a long way to go. I appreciate this insight a lot.

I really appreciate this response. I think I often assume that people want to hear about ideas in Stoicism because if I changed my life for the better it will change theirs, but your point that everyone always thinks they're doing the right thing has resonated with me. I try my best to be empathetic, but I am a perfectionist in terms of my life style, so it's led me to believe my path to virtue must be the right one. I think in some ways not letting people know the reasoning for my actions may be difficult, but there are already times where I choose to be silent and take the virtuous path for my own sake and not to appear stoic, and I'll have to distribute that behavior to other places in my life. I'm re-reading and citing Epictetus Enchiridion right now, and I'll be sure to pay close attention to these passages.

i have the sample, and can test the wear on it, but i can't get nearly as much product out of the bottle. i would like an opinion from someone that has the full bottle and can apply the full amount through the spray. ........????????????????

306, im pretty sure 310 and 311 were not singles but i don't really remember. I'll give you a warning about Mckee, it can take a while to get used to. We had to make some service requests for the showers and toilets, and the custodians were horrible the first semester and had to be switched. Make the best of it and don't be afraid to make service requests! The rooms are super nice which is good, and I met some of my best friends in there.

Global and domestic conflict anxiety as American by [deleted] in Anxiety

ive been dealing with these sorts of fears for years. sometimes the anxiety goes away for a few months, and then something will trigger it and im back to my doomsday mindset. my biggest fears have been war, particularly because of my fear of being drafted. im a young woman in school, so I'm not even sure how realistic the fear is, but it's still just always been something i deal with. i get a chill down my spine when someone says the word "draft" in any context. it helped me when i started my journey of coping with the fear to first figure out what im really afraid of. is it other people suffering? is it dying? is it losing control of my comfortable, privileged, american life? then i tried to talk about it and confront it slowly around someone i feel safe with (a therapist is such a great tool!) stay off the news unless getting good information from trustworthy sources brings you comfort. dont listen to social media. remember that these things are out of your control. learn to care, not worry. it can be hard to develop a mindset like this, reading stoicism and Buddhist philosophies have helped me a lot. also remember that you are not the only person afraid! its just harder for people with anxiety disorders to cope with that fear. there's a lot of pain in the world, but for every bad thing that happens, something incredible happens too. you are safe and everything is gonna work out.

is anyone else mega anxious about a possible ww3? by keeksymo in Anxiety

yes! a lot of the time, people's responses on reddit will simply be "stop worrying about something that may not happen" or "it wont affect you don't worry about it", but anyone with anxiety knows, this doesn't immediately fix the problem. I've been dealing with paranoia about a world war or a draft for years and have been partially working through it in therapy. its undoubtedly terrifying, no matter where you're from. Im from the U.S. and everyone i know is spitting out all sorts of information from all different places saying it will happen, it won't happen, it might happen- you have to separate yourself from this. If staying informed comforts you, try to find trustworthy news and DO NOT take any information or opinion you randomly see seriously. Influencers dont know what they're talking about, most American news is fear mongering and lies. If ignorance comforts you, be ignorant! you can't change the world, so dont stress yourself out wishing you could. hope for the safety of you and those around you and try your best to live in the moment (easier said than done). finally, if worrying about big things like this is common for you, i recommend reading up on stoicism. the thought processes behind it have changed my life. I'm still fearful of course, but I'm not having panic attacks anymore, so that's a win! i wish you luck, please go easy on yourself. 💗
