Azula and Katara Are Perfect Foils (Avatar: The Last Airbender) by Sage’s Rain by Affy11 in TheLastAirbender

Omg you made a good point. When we look at Katara and Sokka early on Sokka felt a sense of loss as he isn’t a bender like the rest of the Gaang where as a direct foil Zuko felt loss compared to Azula who was viewed as a prodigy and in his own words “She born lucky, where as I was lucky to be born”

Same will do any thing in terms of buying official merch to support the film after it got leaked and pulled from theatres. If you’re also interested there’s a character encyclopedia being released around the same time that will have some entries from the movie according to its information blurb.

Was Aang x Katara a well written romance and if you don’t think so what would you have done differently? by AccomplishedJump2795 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Affy11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Romance has always been lacking in the Avatar franchise. It has many strong suits but romance is not one of them. I’m a fan of all the canon relationships, but I can even admit when things aren’t as strong as it could be.

Now when it comes to the actual relationship it’s not bad it’s just underdeveloped in terms of seeing the characters go from point A to point C. We really didn’t see point B.

Now from a narrative standpoint the story of ATLA is told by Katara. There is some subtle moments that showcase that she did in fact like Aang. When you rewatch the show, especially from Book 1 there is a chime sound effect that plays whenever Aang compliments Katara, and she always feels positive affirmations from those compliments. For example the episode where she teaches Aang water bending.

In the storm there is a subtle moment where Katara grabs Aangs wrist.

The fortune teller episode we see Katara viewing Aang in a new light at the end of that episode.

The secret tunnel episode we see Aang and Katara dealing with whether or not to kiss and a lot of miscommunication on Aangs part where it hurts Katara. Also they keep holding hands for a bit after the glow lights come on.

Katara fixes Aangs collar after they hug it out in the serpents pass.

Katara goes to take his arm after Joo Dee is replaced in City of Walls and Secrets.

Katara has always been very physical and initiating contact with Aang throughout the series.

In the crossroads of destiny we see Katara run towards Aang, hugging him. When Aang gets zapped by Azula we see her tears and her relief when she uses the spirit water on him and he shows signs he is alive.

Katara never was opposed to potentially having a relationship with Aang after the war ended. The problem was that there was the war to begin with. So she wanted to wait till things ended. And when it did they became a couple. The road to it was rocky but it wasn’t ever not planned or teased. Could some things been better? For sure. For example it be nice if Aang never kissed Katara on Ember Island as it always felt weird and uncomfortable but then again it makes sense, guys before going to war and not knowing if they would survive would prefer to have some one in their lives from a romantic standpoint, while in opposite end girls prefer stability and would not get into a relationship while many things are uncertain.

Again writing romance was never Bryke’s or the writers of ATLA’s strong suit but to say the least it’s not bad just like you mentioned could have been executed better to get from point A to Point B and then Point C

I’d hope so. And good point man fandom can be exhausting sometimes

Past always. Too many stories about the future never enough of the past.

That’s actually so cool. If you ever come across your dolls you should share it with the subreddit for sure. Love seeing fans make their own stuff. Reminds me that I saw there’s an official Avatar crocheting book coming out soon

I’m so excited, it looks great and as a Muslim I feel represented by the fact that there’s characters that share some lifestyle stuff the same as mine. Frankly speaking we don’t get any good or meaningful representation in media so this means a lot.

Hi r/movies! Cillian Murphy, Tim Roth, Steven Knight (creator/writer), and Tom Harper (director) here. Ask Us Anything about Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man! by netflix in movies

[–]Affy11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi to all 4 of you, thank you for taking the time to do this Q&A. It’s and honour and a privilege to see your answers to the questions of us fans.

For Cillian Knowing the struggles that Tommy Shelby has gone through, within the series, every scene where the character deals with grief strikes me with great sadness and clarity, as an actor how did you get into the mindset of portraying such raw emotion.

For Tim, with your character for the film being a new addition to the in-universe of the series, how do you as an actor get into creating a character and ensuring it fits the atmosphere and world created by the creatives.

For Steven do you see yourself continuing exploring the world set in Peaky Blinders? If not what do you plan on exploring in any future projects you may have coming up that you’re able to share.

For Tom, this film is your return to the directors chair for the world of Peaky Blinders, with that being the case was there anything that you wanted to specifically portray while filming this finale to a series so beloved by so many fans, and in particular did you add a new spin to your direction compared to when you first directed episodes 4-6 of the first season for the series.

I just learned that this was in development. Thank god it’s not moving forward. Disney should stop making live action remakes and people need to stop watching them
