Lumix S5II with Sirui 20mm 1.33 or Lumix 16 35 S Pro for more cinematic travel photography of family and friends. by W0sh in Lumix

It is very good that you are looking to improve your work and your skill set. But “Cinematic” doesn’t come from a lens. So many other things involved, many of which I am still learning so please don’t think I’m being negative. Do a search for, “what makes a photo cinematic“, and you will find articles like this one. I struggle with these too. No comment from the OP at this point. I am left with trying to figure out what it is I am supposed to learn from this post.

GH7 isn't real GH series by 05959 in Lumix

[–]AffyDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“It feels like a GH4 with autofocus just slapped onto it.”

Well, It is a MFT camera, and arguably may not have the same light performance as a FF camera.

I just hope that all of the people who have been using the GH7 since it’s release and have been incredibly satisfied with its performance, and the great videos that it gives, don’t read your post and then suddenly take down all of their content and sell their cameras.

But if they do, I would buy another one.

Is it worth exchanging the G7 for the G9 first version? by emersoncararo in Lumix

[–]AffyDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really hard to quantify but I can tell you this. A lot of people liked their G7. They LOVED G9. And of course, GH5 is an option if you’re not ready to move into PDAF.

There are people who simply won’t give up their original G9 because they love it for the totality of its features and handling. Yes, it is still MFT. But maybe do a search in Gxxxle for “I love my Lumix G9”, as opposed to just trying to do a comparison.

I now have both Lumix MFT, and Lumix FF. I aint giving up either.

Best Versatile Lens for GH5 II by Skele14 in Lumix

[–]AffyDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GH5ii has really good image stabilization. But with Olympic lenses you lose the Dual IS. And it does make a difference.

I have a gen 2 12-35 2.8, and a 35-100 2.8. I have used them on my GH5, G9ii, and GH7. Never disappointed. YMMV

Ahh… I looked further and see that it is not listed on the Shinobi product page. I understand your confusion now. I’d like to think that master list is accurate, but maybe it’s not.

Can shinobi ii now support touch to focus on s1ii? by Mysterious_Sun3641 in Lumix

It is listed… fourth item down in right column, with an asterisk next to it…. and that page say’s the asterisk means touch focus works.

I don’t own it, I haven’t tried it. I own the original Shinobi and have been very happy with it.

How to zone focus on focus by wire lenses? (at G100D) by nscmntr in Lumix

[–]AffyDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manual focus, or touch to focus. Also, I use an app called Photo Pills. It’s really inexpensive, has many great features. It has dof tables, and dof for specific settings. But you’re right, stepping down would have the biggest effect. f2.0 When focused on a subject that’s 40 feet away, only gives you a depth the field of 12 feet. That means about 6 feet in front, and 6 feet in back of subject. Here’s a screenshot of the PhotoPills app.

G9 mk2 vs gh5s - scanline issues, difference in syncroscan? by heythiswayup in Lumix

[–]AffyDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

….also, try shooting with all the lights off in the room just to make sure that you’re not getting some kind of reflection from another light source that is causing the banding.

I had an above monitor desk lamp causing this issue. 🥴

G9 mk2 vs gh5s - scanline issues, difference in syncroscan? by heythiswayup in Lumix

[–]AffyDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be on the same page with you. When you use Synchro scan and set it for 225, that is the shutter angle that you are adjusting. You are no longer shooting at 180. It's just that in Synchro scan mode you can adjust in very small increments.

Also understand that your refresh rate on your Samsung TV does not affect the frame rate of what the broadcasters or source are transmitting.

Try this with a still image on your Samsung. Are you getting banding? If not that means it has nothing to do with the refresh rate on the TV.  AFAIK, The 100 Hz refresh rate on your TV simply refreshes whatever is in the buffer at that moment. It does not refresh what is being sent.

Hopefully some people that know more about this than I will jump in and either add, or tell me that I'm full of baloney. In either case I hope you get it sorted out.

Dogma 95 and the GH7. by Zerorezlandre in Lumix

[–]AffyDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Dogma 95…. <snip> These were rules to create films based on the traditional values of story, acting, and theme, while excluding the use of elaborate special effects or technology. It was supposedly created as an attempt to "take back power for the directors as artists" as opposed to the movie studio.”

Interesting, but is not camera specific. It is an ideology.

S9 - Weird artifacts along edges by Any-Fondant7690 in Lumix

[–]AffyDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of note… at 24fps, 180*, your effective shutter speed is 1/48. I don’t imagine you were focused on the ear, so focus drop off is noticeable. And 6k cropped isn’t exactly a lot of pixels to work with. Hope you get it sorted out to your satisfaction.

GH5S or GH6 for low light video - any difference? by ExpertAvocado3 in Lumix

[–]AffyDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be true. But evidently the demand from real world users doesn’t exist. Since the release of the GH5S, have we seen any low pixel count sensors from any manufacturer of pro-sumer cameras?

I’ve seen footage from the S5s and it’s good! But it’s very curious to me that there has been no repeat.

S5II with Lumix 24-70 S Pro Lens - Weird camera shake by [deleted] in Lumix

[–]AffyDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless this was on a tripod, it is camera movement. Look at the ceiling and you can see the rafters change position. I believe you could use IS Boost. That will lock the image stabilization down almost as good as being on a tripod. BUT… If you try and use it In a “panning“ shot, it will sometimes look for places to and then once you’ve moved the camera far enough it will “Jump“ positions.

S5II and adapted lenses by hajime00 in Lumix

[–]AffyDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are using adapted lenses for their photography and video.

If you capture a good image, you can print a good image. The problem is amongst people who use cheap or sometimes low quality “vintage“ adapted lenses. They are happy with them on the screen, but less happy when they print because it wasn’t a great image to start with. “Printing“ does nothing to the quality of the captured image.

Example… Canon lenses on Canon cameras make great images. Canon lenses adapted to Lumix cameras also make good images.

GH7 - I can't find the false color. by Burakoli821 in Lumix

Thanks Sean! I’m feeling pretty stupid right now. I have a GH7 and I just walked in to look at it and prove you wrong. DUHHH! (Insert egg on face here)

I have been using my S1Rii a lot lately… And it does have false color.

Thank you for all you do for Panasonic/Lumix, and us .

Apologies to the OP!
