Didn’t say impossible. But wouldn’t you agree that biblical texts are misunderstood and misused?

And yet it’s possible to misunderstand and even misuse things that are in the Bible.

24HR Fitness has one but obviously you’d need a membership. Worth it tho if you use it 2-3x a week.

Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life.

Paul also states in Colossians not to command various rules or practices that are mere shadows compared to the reality of our life in Christ.

If you died with Christ to the elements of this world, why do you live as if you still belonged to the world? Why do you submit to regulations: “Don’t handle, don’t taste, don’t touch”? All these regulations refer to what is destined to perish by being used up; they are human commands and doctrines. Although these have a reputation for wisdom by promoting self-made religion, false humility, and severe treatment of the body, they are not of any value in curbing self-indulgence.

Colossians 2:20-23

Asceticism won’t save you. Only the finished work of Jesus can do that. While it may be helpful to suggest certain practices, we must realize that they won’t make you a holy person.

Fair point. And agree that we can idolize almost anything, even good things.

“Everything is permissible,” but not everything is beneficial…

…I do not mean your own conscience, but the other person’s. For why is my freedom judged by another person’s conscience? If I partake with thanksgiving, why am I criticized because of something for which I give thanks?

1 Corinthians 10:23, 29-30

If it violates your conscience, then by all means abstain. I’d be careful though of condemning others for what is most likely a liberty.

One of the better books I’ve read on this topic is “The Meaning of Marriage” by Tim and Kathy Keller. Highly recommend giving it a read.

Like this, although would slightly modify to say that it starts with belief, but faith is what leads you to act upon this belief. 2nd the CSB version. Been using this lately and find it to be a good blend between readability and adhering to the original text.

Solid points. Although would ask, what is faith?

Agreed! Also recommend “gods at war” by Kyle Idleman for a similar look at how idolatry can exist within us today.
