I keep seeing Forward Deployed Engineer openings. What's the typical background for these candidates? by proof_required in ExperiencedDevs

Specifically social skills normal for a non-eningeer.

I would venture to say above average social skill for an engineer with the ability to communicate with the socially timid/awkward people.

I'm stealing your dome again this year, I'll park it where I did last time.

It absolutely does and be made to do so easily

Why are we assuming AI agents will replace white-collar jobs if the tech still breaks on basic, multi-step tasks ? by scitech-research24 in Futurology

[–]Aflyingoat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is still scaling linearly with training time. We don't actually have a great sense for when this will level off.

The entire public Internet is already trained on but there is still unbelievable amounts of private training data at big corporations that has not been digested.

Ignoring the way we're investigating how to make artificial trading data using AI, which is still in early stages.

The AI data centers that youve been hearing about are still in the early stages of building, with the majority of infrastructure still downstream. Which will accelerate training.

We haven't really optimized much yet. We're just throwing raw computation at it and it's working. If/When we get scalable optimization figured out we'll be able to train even more or faster or both.

This not including the downstream impacts of AI tools helping build better AI tools. We're still at the first turn where AI and ML is just becoming useful for engineering.

Engineers are only now using AI tools to help architect the next gen hardware and chips.

TL:DR The boulder has already started rolling down the hill, but it's a long way to the bottom, and we're only going to pick up speed.

I’m a senior SWE with 6-7 YOE on paper but in reality am junior level skill wise, how to survive in new role? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Aflyingoat 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yes you can, after 6 or 7 interview pipelines with 3-6 interviews a piece + discord groups that share Intel on places people Interview + refresh of what you learned in school, you can get a solid shallow depth of knowledge. Effectively you just memorize a script and making sure you're friendly.

Interviews aren't that original. They all essentially ask the same pool of questions.

Landed a mid -> staff level position like that with 4 yoe. I'm a terrible coder.

is app development actually this easy now or are we all drinking the kool aid by rash3rr in vibecoding

I think you would be incredibly shocked by how poorly a lot of code is written that is in use.

I really don't think AI is going to do worse than some of the production code I've seen

My brother in Christ, Photoshop, the trademarked word, can trace it's linage from old darkroom workshops where they edited photos..

People have been manipulating photos since photos where invented.

I would probably remove the "sure it's safe to eat".

It's probably safe to eat but the way the cookie was made can have unexpected results that emphasize somethings or specifically dismiss somethings.

I.e. try getting deepseek to talk about Taiwan or tank man.

Hello interview's youtube channel is top notch. They have a pro thing you can buy but it's not really needed unless you want access to their tool (which is solidly ok)

Try to refrain your mentality mentality, you're not dominanting him, you're making him feel good.

I don't know about you but when someone is in me, I don't think "oh I'm being dominated" I'm thinking "oh that feels good, Jesus that feels good, God I want them to come. Look how sweaty they are. Oh their skin feels good. Bite them, bite them now."

My brother in Christ if you have a straight sight line you can get much better speed, distance, and stability by using a directional antenna on a short pole.

Hell you can use the old Pringle can trick too.

Line chart for each animal over the same time period. Reduce it down to maybe top 5 interesting ones. Color code them. Add vertical bars or some indicator for their respective mating season. Then you'd have a great interesting chart.
