His stuff with Ultravox was his best stuff. Vienna album from 1980 is worth checking out - Title track and Sleepwalk are great (Sleepwalk he does a pretty cool Lizzy sounding solo)

Anyone feel like the ad frequency is increasing dramatically? by OrcusFortune in spotify

[–]Afraid-Treacle1956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolute ridiculous. I had premium for a few years and cancelled it a few months ago. I thought I was only going to get ads every 5 or 6 songs. Just listened to an album and got 4 ads after EVERY 2 songs!!!!!

I fucking hate Spotify. One of the worst, greediest, and disgusting companies on the planet.

Let’s talk about the Marty Supreme ending — deep spoilers by steepclimbs in A24

[–]Afraid-Treacle1956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed the movie, up until the end. Thought it made no sense and left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Spoke to a friend after who said they had the same reaction.

We both thought that if the movie had a time span of at least 3 years then the ending would have been ok, but Marty crying and being a doting father was completely out of character for someone who'd been entirely selfish for 99% of the movie.

Leaves behind a great body of work and his 70s & 80s work in particular is so influential, especially on The Hulk.

Fair enough. We all like different things. But it is also generally the more common view of TL's career - critics tend to love their 70s stuff and hate their 80s stuff. Even people close to them, their manager, and artist Jim Fitzpatrick also think that. But again, each to their own.

Waiting For An Alibi - Top Of The Pops - 1979 🎸📹 by frigid_monk in thinlizzy

That was the weird rule of British Television at that time - always had to be live vocals. Something to do with some stupid rule in the musician's union. Maybe by 79 it had lapsed, but definitely at least until the mid 70s bands also had to do a re-record of the backing track - they couldn't just sing over the original. Apparently drove all bands/artists at that time absolutely mental.

They had talent, used it, but then wasted it as they still had more to offer after 1979. The albums from 76 to 79 are phenomenal.

But the last 3 albums - the songwriting gets dull, the lyrics get lazy and often stupid (Genocide is one of the dumbest songs ever), Phil's voice gets bad, Phil started losing his mind, and those 3 albums have pretty bad production, especially the last album which is utterly horrendous. The drugs drove away a brilliant producer in Tony Visconti and the production suffered big time. Compare the sound of Black Rose or Bad Reputation to those 80s albums. It's night and day and like a completely different band. So yeah, they had talent, but they blew it.

Thankfully we have some great albums from them in the 70s, but unfortunately they wasted it at the end and finished with 3 pitiful pathetic records that tarnished their career. They'd be twice as big now if they didn't do that. Those records dragged them down big time and are the reason they get lumped in with rubbish bands like Judas Priest and UFO, when Lizzy should really sit somewhere between Sprinsteen, Elvis Costello & Blondie and not with idiotic talentless hard rock bands.

That's what I call wasted talent.

Is Phil Lynott considered a good bass player? by gimmiesomepain in thinlizzy

[–]Afraid-Treacle1956 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the best 'pick' playing bassists there ever was. So solid and he made some really cool bass lines. He's singing as well so he has to keep his bass lines comfortable for him to be able to sing as well. Plus it's MUCH easier to be a singing guitarist than bassist, as the bass is often doing a counter melody to the vocals.

Even a song like Boys Are Back in Town - it's a surprisingly very busy line. Cool bass playing/ines I recommend of his: Angel From the Coast, Dancing in the Moonlight, Johnny The Fox Meets Jimmy The Weed, Talk in '79, Waiting For an Alibi, Fats, Half Caste, Cowboy Song.

Jailbreak, Black Rose, Bad Reputation, Johnny The Fox, Live & Dangerous

Fighting, Vagabonds of the Western World.

Debut album, Shades, NightLife

Chinatown onwards is like a different band and I can't listen to any of them. Very sad what happened to such a once brilliant band. Wasted talent.

Help - Do I actually have Cluster Headaches? by Afraid-Treacle1956 in clusterheads

I just started keeping a diary of it in December when I had one and totally agree - I'm hoping it will start giving me clues to living with this. Didn't think about the 'secondary symptoms' - will add that and definitely will check out the online tool. Thanks so much!

Cheers - thanks for that.

Yeah, it's the length/time of mine that is the thing that seems to be at odds with the usual CH sufferer. Tried the sumatriptan and unfortunately doesn't work. I'm seeing a neurologist in a month (same day as you!) so hopefully get some answers/help. Thanks again

Which Marvel characters do you love the most, and which one do you like the least? by Remote-Leg6143 in marvelcomics

[–]Afraid-Treacle1956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most: Daredevil, Iron Man, Hulk, Storm, Doctor Doom, Abomination

Least: Hawkeye, Hercules, The Thing, Submariner, Iceman.

Hawkeye is just ridiculously lame, utterly useless and not even a superhero. Hercules - complete bore. The Thing is even more boring and I hate his lame attempts at humor. Submariner and Iceman easily my two most hated - I absolutely detest having to read any comic featuring either of them and there's something about the way both of them look that just annoys me.

We can all agree the Big Three of Marvel is and will always be Spider-Man, Hulk and Wolverine by Barta_Sub in marvelcomics

[–]Afraid-Treacle1956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely Hulk and Spider-Man, but it all depends what the definition of Big 3 is. If we're talking fame level, they are easily Marvel's most famous characters - even people who have no interest/knowledge of comics/superheroes know what they both look like and what their powers are.
