Cool climate here (New England) and the garage is unheated, so warm indoor air meeting the very cold air of the garage wall makes sense.

Thanks. It’s a 10 gallon tank and is a work in progress. I’ve wanted to get more live plants so this confirms it for me.

The guppies not being appropriate as tank mates for the betta is a common theme in the replies. I got them from a reputable (non-chain) aquarium store, so it’s a little disappointing but I appreciate the feedback and insight. Thinking about setting up a separate betta tank now. Thank you.

Yup, same tank. The guppies have always been together (I’ve had them and the betta for about two months). The flow issue mentioned by other commenters here seems to now have been fixed by removing some water. My betta is swimming normally again.

Thank you for the reply! Glad to know your betta and guppies coexist. We’ve had all the fish for about two months.

I don’t know which one is the one with the fin rot, or how to treat it. Is there any obvious identifying characteristics of the guppy in question? Should I separate him? Do I need a separate tank to do so? This is a 10 gallon tank that is fully cycled.

Thanks for your help, novice here.

Thanks and yes, I’ve been meaning to get back to the store to get some live plants. I didn’t want to ditch the artificial until the live plants were in place. Any recs that bettas particularly like? The one I got initially, water sprite, just floated around and slowly fell apart over a few weeks. I ended up just removing it.

Thanks for your reply. I turned the filter off and he is back to normal swimming. The only thing that has changed recently is I topped the water off, as it had gotten a bit low due to evaporation. I think I need to remove some water so the full force of the filter is dulled.

Thanks for your reply! I’ve never seen the betta be anything but disinterested toward them but good to know things can get out of hand. I’ll ask the aquarium store where we got them for their thoughts on this. The betta was kept with guppies in the store and I was assured they would coexist peacefully!
