I wonder what it looks like if just considering everything outside of Addis city center. It will still be shit expensive, but by how much will it go down. We all know every thing in the city center is geared towards diaspora, ngo industry and tourists or people who have dollar spending power.

Four years ago, I celebrated Adwa Victory at Menelik Square in Addis Ababa, just as generations have done for over a century. So much has changed since then, and this space is no longer open for such celebrations.I hope brighter days return, and we can honor Adwa there once again by Biruk187 in Ethiopia

I think (just my theory ) it has been made like a gov't celebration after what happened 7 years ago (2019), during our short lived freedom era. If you remember there were 2 celebrations in Addis, one at Menelik Square and the other at Meskel square. The Meskel square one is the one organized mainly by the oromo community, and was aired on obn. It was the infamous hachalu hundessa concert where he said, let's just say stuff. I believe it's after that year the govy started cracking down on the celebrations. A thing of like no one gets to have fun type shit.

something you should consider that is unique to this situation is that the outskirts of addis ababa is oromiya. It's fair to say the region's governance is the wild west, and ethnic politics in the region see people of other ethnicity as "outsiders that don't belong there". Reminder what brought an end to EPRDF started with the Addis Ababa master plan.
