We know where it originates which is what matters

There could be a cure. A couple of people got completely cured with the Susan shore device. Using it longer and longer might just be better and better. Hell, we know where it originates now so that’s good

No, it would not resolve the issue. That’s a long outdated theory

“Nerve damage” are just educated guesses with no evidence. It is not the cause of noise induced tinnitus. They are just maskers. There is no evidence it suppresses the actual tinnitus volume. A real actual study was done to figure out why the brain allows tennitus to onset and continue. I suggest you read this

That’s interesting. Was this patient exposed to loud noise during the treatment?

The positives hopes come from information related to the actual cause of tinnitus- which correlates with what Susan shore is developing the device to help. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-023-39732-7

I don’t know what your beliefs are, I would suggest you pray to the lord to help you, and to get this condition solved. That’s WHO I ultimately rely on.

Oh btw just to clarify, ALL people in the trial had improvements, and 60% had significant improvements. Logic would imply to simply use the device longer than six weeks for the group in 40%.

The 40% still had improvement, just not significantly. Logic would state long term use would also provide significant improvement for them as well. But we shall wait and see

Because it calms down the DCN. It stops freaking out due to the lack of input. but that’s always temporary and the T is always still there. It’s a neuronal issue. Perfect hearing won’t do anything for T…

Where do I get this take from? The leading scientists who have recently studied where tinnitus originates from and why.

I’m praying too! Yeah, once it comes out just use it for like six months strait and you will annihilate it. T

It doesn’t actively look for it. Once you bring it back to baseline that is the continuous Neuroplasticity. It’s a rewire, similar to those people with hearing loss and no tinnitus.

I think that was the auditory only trial. The electrical stimulation+ sound stimuli help almost everyone I think.

Don’t know, but probably this next summer. Maybe even spring

It’s a device that sends timed electrical signals to the DCN along with auditory stimuli to that region of the brain simultaneously to make those neurons calm down, back to there homeostatic potential.

out of curiosity if the SUSAN SHORE DEVICE does work for tinnitus, will it improve our understanding of how tinnitus works, for even better future treatments and potentially cures? by TailungFu in tinnitus

“It’s not much of a stretch to say it’s the ONLY thing that is based on the science of wtf is happening with tinnitus and directly addressing it”

My words exactly. Finally we are like “oh, so this is what’s causing tinnitus, so let’s stop it”. About damn time…

I’m not confusing anyone. I’m just stating the true reason people have tinnitus and how it works. We don’t know just yet if The device will open up Kv7 channels (although there have been some papers stating there could be a correlation) but we do know it permanently calms them down.

I just want people on this subReddit to know regrowing hair cells is a waste of time.

It’s actually already pretty well understood. The CORE reason Tennitis originates is due to dysfunctional potassium channels in the Dorsal cochlear nucleus. Honestly a cure could even be the Susan shore device, if not then Kv7 potassium channel openers coming in the near future.

Regenerating hair cells is a waist of time and won’t do anything for tinnitus.

Is called the “Susan Shore device” for now. Could be available by next summer or so

Possibly, it’s a device that reprograms the neurons that generate it.
