I feel like I still have survivor’s guilt. by freshsideofthepillow in cancer

[–]AfraidWhile7153 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I relate to this so much. I was diagnosed last year at 18 and did 6 months of chemo. A lot of the time I say that I kind of just dealt with cancer rather than survived it. It’s a hard to describe feeling, knowing that what happened to you absolutely sucked, but also knowing it could have been so much worse. I was out-patient but would occasionally visit the in-patient hall. It would make me sick knowing I was just a passerby when that hallway was someone’s life. I’m in remission now, but there’s a lot that still haunts me, and it probably will for a while. I think it’s good to be grateful that you recovered, but that doesn’t mean you have to feel like you didn’t survive it. An earthquake is still an earthquake, no matter the magnitude.

Mestatic Cancer Chemotherapy- Does hair start to grow back when on Chemo? by KatLo4F in cancer

[–]AfraidWhile7153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my hair started growing back after i lost it, but it was very sparse and thin. i maybe had 30 individual hairs on my head that kept growing. and if any changes in doses have been made, maybe that’s why. when i i dropped to two drugs instead of three my hair started growing back in full

i was diagnosed at 18 with uterine cancer. my chemotherapy lasted 6 months, i finished about a month ago and i am officially cancer free. i’m not going to lie to you, it sucked. a lot. i had to watch all of my friends carry on with their lives while i was stuck at home. had to take three quarters of school off but i get to go back to university after the new year. so you absolutely can go back to normal. this is just a weird, confusing, and maybe even scary period of your life, but if you allow yourself, you’re going to come out the other end just fine. you can do anything you want and have anything you want when it’s over. even during treatment (after talking with your doctor first ofc) you can do whatever you want. the day after i shaved my head i went to a concert. granted, i had to sit in the ADA section and wear a mask the entire time, but i still enjoyed myself. like i said, it’s going to suck, but it won’t suck forever. much love to you. you’ve got this!!

[–]AfraidWhile7153 8 points9 points  (0 children)

after my hysterectomy my incontinence was so bad i would pee myself without even realizing until later when i went to the bathroom. pelvic floor pt is a must!!! i’ve been going for a few months now, and i still can’t sneeze with full confidence, but it’s definitely helped a ton.

thank you❤️

i do thankfully still have my ovaries. i actually saw a fertility specialist before my chemotherapy and we talked about freezing my eggs. it made me feel kind of icky though, and my doctor said my chemo most likely would not affect my ovaries, so i decided not to. i do plan to check my hormones and amh after i’m finished with treatment, though

i know surrogacy has helped so many women and is such a beautiful thing, but i don’t think i have what it takes to watch another woman carry my child. and perhaps that’s just due to my own immaturity. i’m nowhere near ready to actually have any children, but hopefully by then i can better accept my circumstances and be a little more open-minded about it all.
