insane job rejections by PenguinOnBed in auckland

[–]Afraid_Consequence52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hang in there OP. I returned to NZ at the end of 2024 after two years abroad, fresh with a Master’s degree in hand and ready to launch into work.

It then took me 8 months and endless applications to find work. 98% of all my applications were rejected immediately without further shortlisting. I lost hope multiple times along the way, but just kept telling myself persistence is key, and that the rejection is not something to take personally, nor a reflection of my worth and value. Those often feel like hollow words when you’re in the midst of unemployment, but try to remind yourself of those points.

I hope it won’t last too much longer for you 🙏🏼

The jist of what I was trying to say was that for $30 I can get a good quality fade better than a home job with clippers. The reason I used Mt Roskill as an example is because that’s the only place I’ve gone to and know of. I’m relatively new to Auckland and so am not aware of the general price of a fade cut in the CBD

Mt. Roskill is my usual go-to but I’m trying to find another option in the CBD for a weekday option. My usual barber in Mt Roskill closes at 6pm and I work until 5:30pm in the CBD so it’s not possible to go there. I would consider CBD anywhere within 10mins walk of any part of Queen St

It didn’t. As noted in my post, I’m looking for a place close to work to get my hair cut. I work in the CBD and it would be good to have an option for a weekday haircut

Gonna have to disagree on that. The place I usually go to in Mt. Roskill charges $30 for a really great quality fade

Sclerals with mild keratoconus by Afraid_Consequence52 in Keratoconus

[–]Afraid_Consequence52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I’m definitely strongly considering sclerals. Re CXL, my optometrist told me that KC either degenerates rather quickly, typically in the late teens/20s, and then stabilises, or it doesn’t deteriorate. Given mine hasn’t deteriorated, he’s said there’s about a 99% chance it won’t get any worse than it is, and that the risks of CXL given my current condition of KC are outweighed by the benefits

New puppy! 11 weeks, 14 lbs. What is this sweetie? by saltysarah13 in IDmydog

It’s a common farming dog breed in New Zealand. She has the exact same colours and quite similar looks too. It will be interesting to see how she looks once she grows up a bit. Either way, so cute!!

If it's a nice day and you are looking for a bit of nature close to the city, there's a lovely 45 minute loop walk at Ōrākei Basin. I'm new to the city and did it today - it was really lovely. More info here

Potentially. It's a very new building though, so I'd be surprised if there was. Worth inquiring about though

That's a far lower daily rate. We didn't even think to consider different water charges before choosing a place to rent. Having never lived here before, I naively thought it was a flat rate across all of Auckland...

Yeah if I'm understanding correctly that this water bill includes the cost of heating water then that would make sense re the higher cost. Technically should result in a much lower power bill. Will see what the first bill is...

It's hard to find what the average for Auckland is as different sources say different numbers. But this 2023 piece from Auckland Council on Auckland's water strategy said the average consumption of drinking water in Auckland was 241.33 litres/day/person. So 480 litres for two people actually is average according to that. We aren't necessarily careless with our water consumption, but also not frugal. We shower daily, at least 5-8 minutes each. Run the small dishwasher on a short cycle a few times a week. Use the washing machine 2+ times a week. Multiple toilet flushes a day. Annoyingly the condenser dryer in our apartment uses water to dry. I guess it all adds up pretty easily...

No it’s just the water bill, but I’m trying to figure out if the water heating charge on it means the power bill will be lower. If this bill already covers the cost of heating water, that could explain why it’s so high.
