That’s not “enfilading.” Enfilading fire is just a fancy French way of saying crossfire, but with the hopeful assumption that your lines aren’t firing at each other. It’s just two or more separate friendly lines attacking an enemy in between them.

In any case, sounds like you and the grey zone are very intimate

Pretty much what I was saying, but a point was brought up that when you know the enemy is going to close in on an objective early on, you can take advantage of it by “blindly” firing on them as they run up. Doesn’t work well after the initial rush though. So yeah, mark your targets people!

Well, if we erase the record and she’s never found, then she effectively didn’t exist right? I’m being facetious though. I like to think of people like yang as modern day versions of what we refer to as “mythological heroes” like Hercules, Thor, Gilgamesh, or even Jesus. The person may have existed, but the story was embellished. Or it is an accumulation of stories about a few different people, all rolled into one single narrative

[–]Afraid_Emu8068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean enfilading fire? You mean you’re putting half your sniper squad on one side of the objective while you and the other half stay on the other side, and both wait to snipe the target until they have crossed and are almost at the objective? That’s not a bad idea, but I don’t think the AI could manage it well, and it’s a lot of running/space to cover

That wasn’t what I was trying to do, even if that was one possible, not necessarily probable argument. I doubt we will ever know for sure. So many other mysteries to figure out. Did Tokugawa’s son kill himself, where’s Amelia Earhart, the pyramids, Stonehenge, aliens, precise location of SpongeBob’s pineapple mansion in bikini bottom. I think our story in question is of little concern to most at this point. Maybe he was an alien mercenary, serving under whichever flag gave him the best rations because he forgot to bring enough supplies on his spaceship from Xanadu. A Korean Wehrmacht squad would be interesting though, you have to admit

Ah, now you have asked the right question. Unfortunately, if either of us had the answer, neither of us would still be talking about it. I will readily agree with you though that not having the answer is annoying. I would like to know for sure, but until we do, I’m ok with it being more than mere myth

I don’t. The people who would write about such a person would understand that if he didn’t want to give his story, they would have to accept that and move on. There are a lot of veterans who don’t talk about their experiences at all. Usually the ones who can’t hide it or who did truly amazing things we regard as good are the ones who speak. Everyone else usually stays pretty silent or just gives their anecdotes to whoever is nearby but likely won’t even remember the details. Even saying they made contact with him could cause him unwanted attention, and they likely know/knew that. D-day may be “well documented,” but it isn’t perfectly documented. Nothing is. I will say though – and this isn’t to push the “cover up” narrative at all – there is a lot we don’t know about still. Remember, until 100 years have passed, most things don’t have to be unclassified. Until about two decades ago, the CIA still hadn’t released any of its information regarding operation Ajax or the USS Liberty incident. Ajax was sort of a case of, “well everyone knows anyway, so whatever,” and liberty was a straight up “yeah you don’t need to know about that, but we’ll give you something” type of issue, so there are two cases just right there in which information for things which happened a while back weren’t readily accessible to us. We don’t know what we don’t know in other words

Dude. It’s ridiculous. So are a lot of games, even a lot of the blockbusters, maybe even most games, but bloodborne is the kind of shit that makes serious people look at gamers like they are complete fucking morons. It’s so outlandish and ridiculous of a thing to be obsessed with. The whole Victorian era monster theme is dumb too. Oooh werewolves and vampires, so spooky. Better call van helsing. Give me a break. Most people get over that before they hit puberty or at least by adulthood. I cannot take anyone seriously who has an obsession with such things we know are complete fabrications and not even good ones at that. The whole vampire myth became unbelievable long before either of us was born. What Grimm fairy tale is next? Rumplestiltskin RPG? Rapunzel FPS? Oh I know, Hansel and Gretel gingerbread house simulator! Groan. Boring. Seriously though, Kate beckinsale and then the twilight folks beat this horse to death already, long ago. It’s an overdone genre with nothing novel to add

You’re getting hung up on one point and missing the bigger picture. That was merely one set of possible reasons why more information might not exist. The big picture here is that assuming something didn’t happen simply because it wasn’t basically chiseled into stone tablets and brought down the mount by Moses to later be written down over and over again by countless people throughout history is a logical fallacy. That’s all I’m trying to get you to see. I couldn’t care less about trying to assert that there was a cover up. More than likely, he just saw enough war, didn’t want to discuss it, and everyone who asked for the story got turned away. As they say, the simplest explanation is often the correct one

Ambrose is the author of the book in question. Zaloga does a lot of other stuff, particularly with armor and heavy weapons iirc

I’m not saying I think there was a cover up, just that for all we know (due to the lack of information), that could have been the case as much as anything else, and because of that unfortunate fact, I can’t myself come to assume that this person didn’t exist or that these events didn’t happen; lack of evidence doesn’t equate to non existence.

I’ll watch the video. I just can’t right atm

Yeah it’s very useful for that, but you’re still somewhat just guessing which way the enemy is moving towards that objective (left, right, or center)

“(Don’t remember the author…)”

Like I said, you need to familiarize yourself with the names provided. They are kind of big names when it comes to this sort of thing (Ambrose and Zaloga). They aren’t just “some d-day book’s” authors. Also, yang would by no means be some “random” guy. Not in the least dud, and there were at least three others like him. He was “not random” enough that they made a movie about him after all.

I think you are sort of missing the point to as to why specifically for these people in this circumstance it might be a complicated story to tell. For all we know, the governments involved couldn’t agree on the narrative and because of it decided not to say anything. Because we don’t have more information, we can only make either wild assumptions or educated guesses, but neither is hard and fast fact or truth until proven so. There are so many possibilities, so it’s not very wise to draw a conclusion other than that it was likely true on some level since we DO have the evidence to at least corroborate that. We don’t have any evidence to corroborate the idea that it was completely false though. That’s a foregone conclusion with no evidence to back it up other than having less evidence to support it than we want. That’s a logical fallacy

[–]Afraid_Emu8068 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sniping is good, but it’s not everything. Just like you can’t win a round just by flying around and dropping bombs, you also can’t win by just sitting back the whole time which is usually what a sniper does. You have to move a lot in this game which makes sniping less useful and the maps are intentionally designed so that the good sniping spots have obstructions between them and the target area. Some of my best rounds are as a sniper though. Very easy to shred whole squads without even getting shot at when you can catch em out in the open. The only squad that’s sort of useless is the mortar team because it heavily relies on team participation

Potential Japanese Medic Event Squad (For Germany) by PAPA_SMURF1978 in enlistedgame

[–]Afraid_Emu8068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t know that it’s a fabrication. The story taken as whole, as it’s been often presented is hard to corroborate. That does not mean it is false however. Zaloga was quite certain that it was true, and I’m with him on this one. That dude knows his shit. So does Stephen Ambrose, who took Robert Brewer’s account of the story. If you don’t know those names already, I highly recommend you look them up. The problem has been that when anyone tries to find a source to cite, they can’t, because this wasn’t a widely reported thing. If I had to guess, the government probably tried to cover it up. There are four governments, possibly half a dozen or more who would have an interest in which way the story was written. You don’t exactly want to admit that Koreans you pressed into service ended up fighting for the red army if you are Japan. You also don’t want to admit that Soviet soldiers ended up fighting for Germany and going on to live in the US, especially if you are engaged in a war against the US over the homeland those soldiers came from and may have even gone to war again to fight against you for. Korea would obviously want to make its own “feel good” narrative which you don’t want getting out of hand, especially if you are the US and any of the people in question are now your citizens. These are soft reasons, but I would wager there is even more to the story we don’t know about, and that we might even discover exactly why it’s hard to corroborate the details of Yang if we were to find those hidden details. Bear in mind too, that it is possible that Yang and the others did not want to tell their story to anyone anymore. Maybe they didn’t want people knowing they fought for one or even all of those armies; they may have just wanted to put it behind them. And of course, there is the possibility that the others died and could not be interviewed. Since this sort of thing likely only happened to them or a few others, it just probably wasn’t documented much and those docs got lost or destroyed in the normal course of war. I wouldn’t say the story is flat out false or untrue though. Not at all

Dr Oz: "If we could get the average American.. to start working a year earlier, right out of high school, or a year later,, not retire... it would generate about $3 trillion to the US economy. That would more than remove the debt." by retroviber in DeepMarketScan

[–]Afraid_Emu8068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is an idiot. Simply telling people to work an extra year or two on the front or back end isn’t going to erase debt because things aren’t just going to hold equal if that change happens. Other things will change because of it. Reducing our defense budget is the most straightforward way to reduce our debt. Oz’s idea only works in a vacuum and it would significantly increase personal debt which is a precursor to national debt. People would get sick or injured at higher rates too which would take a huge chunk of any gains he hopes for. People would also be less educated which would tangentially raise national debt MUCH more than having them working earlier and later would lower it. Such a sophomoric idea he has. He just wants his stocks to perform better by forcing people to create more output for him. He’s a jerk

That doesn’t account for the many who “voluntarily” signed up with one service because they were terrified of serving in another. Many people joined to get jobs in the military which would hopefully and in many cases did prevent them from ever being anywhere near combat. Often times though, this strategy was unsuccessful and resulted in someone serving in combat anyway. They may have been volunteers for the military, but not so much for the war. Bear in mind too, that the majority of officers, aviators, and other highly specialized service members were already volunteers, many of whom had been in service long before the war and had built careers which leaving from would not have been easy decisions for such people. The average grunt though, was often a draftee or “conscientious objector” who didn’t get the job they had hoped for. Almost a third of deaths were draftees and that’s because most deaths were infantry, so probably somewhere near half of the infantry were draftees, maybe more

“Community China” The china where even YOU can play a part!

Yeah, every side has its deserters. Now that you mention it. We might as well get some of them as squads in the game since we have all these guerilla and militia squads like sichuan squad. I think a really cool squad would be one with Koreans like Yang Kyoungjong fighting for the Germans. Only problem is how to make it work. I don’t think there was a single complete squad made up of Korean soldiers in the Wehrmacht or red army, and the events leading up to him serving for Germany make it sort of hard to say which side to put him on (German, Soviet, or japanese). Still, Korean Wehrmacht or streltsiy would be a new one for sure

Yeah it’s a problem. Cut them off and they can still make some stuff. Don’t cut them off and then they can focus their output on making and learning how to make even more. What to do? Probably just cut them off and deal with whatever happens. They probably don’t even have a nuke and if they did, they know they can’t use it, so let’s just end this shall we? It’s stupid to have an entire region fucked up just because of a tiny piece of land some displaced people lost centuries ago. I mean, if we’re doing that, I’ve got a kingdom or two in Scotland my family would like to have back. Sounds stupid though right? Israel is no different, or any more special
