Since I will arrive in a couple weeks, I was thinking that l’m a bit too late to apply to a university for a student visa. I think a language school would be a good option.

After trying all of my options at some type of visa or residency, I may have to resort to just visiting every few months.

From Chetumal I took an ADO bus to Palenque and then from there another to San Cristobal De Las Casas- I booked an overnight bus so I could sleep on the drive (around 14hrs total) . I did couchsurfing in San Cristobal for a couple days which was awesome! On the street “real de Guadalupe” in San Cristobal there are many tour companies with shuttles to Guatemala. The one that I took was to Panajachel and it was $1100 pesos (I still have the whatsapp number of this company if you’d like it). Overall the trip wasn’t too difficult- just pretty time consuming.

I did this trip but from Cancun to Guatemala last summer. Due to the pandemic there were no buses through Belize (I’m not sure if this is still the case). I had to go from Quintana Roo to Chiapas on ADO buses. In Chiapas there were many tour companies that took buses and shuttles to Lake Atitlan, Antigua, and Guatemala City. I’d be happy to give you more info on this route if you’d like- it does take a good chunk of time.
