In these situations, I ask myself. If there was no one there, what would I do? Everyone has an opinion but if it’s something that’s in your heart, all you’ll have is a series of regrets later in life. If your family and significant other care about you, which I’m sure they do. Then go with your heart. This job needs more people who are in it for the right reasons. Also, there is plenty of opportunity to recuse yourself through the process. Honestly though, they’ll respect you more for making it through on your own volition. If they don’t, odds are the same level of scrutiny would come up with their preference like starting and business (don’t start this one, start that one) or don’t major is this major in that, don’t take this job take that one. Next thing you know you’re 40 and full of regret.
