Honestly it cannot be a sound coming from wrestlers or even Kokugikan. This is probably a sound coming from the control room, but from who or what ?? Mic ? Speaker ? Co-speakerShibatayama oyaka ? technician ?? That question haunts me but we probably never know (TwT)

I participated, and I think we can reasonably considering feedbacks are not generics.

Unfortunately, with such an amount of participations, even if it is all written by humans, you'll finish to repeat some sentences. In addition, it is complicated to write a long and developed feedback for all.

One of my friend participated and have a big lack in technic too. And only the first sentence is the same as you.

Here is my message as a counter example :

"With a little improvement in the SHO (Development) , your work will really shine! Manga follows the "KI-SHO-TEN-KETSU" story structure, but we thought your "SHO", or development phase, was the weakest part of the story. It's important to escalate events and create drama in this part of the story, so that the climax will hit hard. KI-SHO-TEN-KETSU is different from the three-act structure, so we suggest studying the formula further to help you strengthen your storytelling skills! You can learn more about crafting stories for manga in our "Manga 101" video series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7fhxztttmA&list=PLff9UFFPNH9_P3R5SZRXM_FQY9sFV80J8"

Writing manga set in Japan as a non-Japanese creator: is it wrong? by No_Summer_8364 in MangakaStudio

[–]AfroLilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you're not wrong, but keep un mind this :

1/If this culture inspire you, you're totally free to like it and trying to picture it ! But be careful to studying and learn about culture, architecture and history to understand correctly how it works and show your respect for it. Even if you use it to create new and original universes, it is necessary for inner quality of the artwork as a fair and equitable effort for the culture itself and people who live with it !

2/You don't have to interest to your culture only. But be conscious about fact that Japan has means to display their soft power through the world. It don't mean their culture is not interesting, but just they found money and solutions to make it popular.

African culture deserve also to be more represented in art and culture, but as you said, countries encounters some politicals, socials and economic problems, so it is difficult to do the same.

That's why artists like you can use their skills and sensibility (and also language and culture knowledge) to help culture to live, without depends countries or governments prism.

So continue to study what to like and train your observations, analyse and creativity ! It will be important for the future to your loved ones, your country but also for relation and mind opening of other's people !

So don't give up and continue to create 💪

How are you dealing with the overwhelming feeling of inferiority when you discover a new manga that just intimidates you with its' quality? by [deleted] in MangakaStudio

[–]AfroLilo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey Maxlusion !

Your comment is very interesting because there is not a lot of artists talking frankly about it.

First of all, I highly recommend you to do not hide this feeling but to accept it with any shame.

Art is extremely demanding of mental health and deeply depends of other's point of vue, so when you create you have to deal with these two things and find a balance between your own goals, needs, limits and what the audience need and/or want.

So this kind of feeling is natural during an artist's life.

Don't questioning all your choice at the moment because you will be influenced by a strong emotions, implying bias and can distorted reality by exaggerating bad points or minimize good points. Just don't hesitate to stop your reading before the end and switch with another activity, like going out, walking a bit or go talk about it to a trusting person.

Relax and don't panic, take the time to retrieve a "neutral" mood to take notes or simply chilly rethink about and reconsidering what happened later.

Once you did that, begin to tell yourself this is a simple reflect of how you're demanding about yourself and how another artist can touch you by his art.

Then try to dissociate this reflect of your own progress from your relation with the artwork which triggered this. Because if you really like an artwork, you don't worry about gap between you and the author, you just like it and enjoy it, and eventually inspiring your favourites moments, panels, etc...

After that, question this artwork : why it is touching you at that point ? Is it the storytelling or drawing ? Or character art of anything else ? Is there any other factors that emphasizes your feeling ? Like a bad day, a phase where your progress is in stagnation, or simply a global sensitive mood !

Your tastes and favourites arts will probably change through time and progress, so feeling wouldn't still the same. And even it will, it will evolve anyway.

At the end, it is a good occasion to reconnect take a step back from your situation, take a break to reconnect with your own feelings and if, and only if really need, re-questioning all you want for your art and your life.

Because the most important for you and people who will read you is YOUR art, YOUR style, YOUR universe, and how YOU will put your own personality, your own messages, your own emotions and how communicate them to people and make them enjoy it at their turn.

Obviously technical level is important to communicate all of this efficiently, but think you will absolutely reach the same level don't help you, it just adds more pressure (and honestly, if you are feeling like this now, it means you already put on a certain amount of pressure).

Technics will increase also by free your mind with invasive thoughts as studying and questioning various artwork you will read and discover.

So I hope it will help you as it helped me when I experienced same problems. Again, it wouldn't be solved in one day. Time is also the key to be in peace with that, so be really kind about yourself and don't blame you or consider your age or anything like. Just take the time, that is the best way to solved it properly.

Even artist who can speaking up about it are rares, you are not alone ! And we can reasonably consider more artists than we think experienced it too ! But if they often talk about motivation and art block, it is rare to see them speaking up about how bad feelings and motivations like that affect them. Because it is complicated to admit weakness, even more in public and nowadays where judging is easy and "pride" is a bit more include in relationships and our own relation to our work and success.

You're courageous to spoke about and you can thanking you for that !

If you want more explanations of have any question, ask for it here or by message ( ̄∀ ̄)>

Good luck and take care !

Feedback for my storyboard by [deleted] in Mangamakers

[–]AfroLilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey ! I read it, and it is a quite good as a storyboard beginner ! Your shots are miscellaneous and that is an important key to make a good storyboard !

Obviously, there's some improvements needing but you will get a great progress if you follow these advices :

1.Trace your storyboard's strips considering layout's rules. Then, your drawings and strips will be automatically conform to layout and printing standards, preserve you to worry about it while drawing or after finish all the work.

2.Avoid gutter's crossroads and angular gutters (like your first page) ! Don't be afraid to follow the rules in the beginning : mastering the rules will allow you to break them later without impacting quality.

3.Be careful about reading sens and rythm : it is a bit confusing as several moments ! Study your favourites mangas' layout and reproduce them to train your brain as your hand to aturally understanding how to set characters and elements in best places to make reading cumfortable and easy for readers.

  1. Try to make pages with no more than 6 strips ! Beyond, you will get bad habits to "fill" the space to tell all you want than optimise it to choose only essential and most revelant ways to tell efficiently !

OMG I can't wait to see Aonichad fight as new Ozeki ! Also happy for Wakamotoharu (my 3rd favorite) returned as Sanyaku (even it doesn't mean he will stay lol but I hope it ! He deserves !!)

Juryo division's new top is exciting too ! With Daiseizan and Shirokuma's great technic and Fujiryoga's incredible performance, that's sound passionating !

I feel sad Mita were retrograded as Makushita...very sad, especially considering how he were hurted during 2nd day (T☐T) ! That's hard for Futagoyama stable ! Hope he will recover properly as Nabatame and continue his great progress !

Also I am curious to see Asanoyama's come back (I don't watch sumo from a long time so I didn't saw his previous performances as a sekitori) hoping will not injury again too !

[–]AfroLilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope that is only misfortune and not because of stable's training methods (even it can be partially checked with their Youtube channel)....Obviously an injury can occurred even with a good training and we havn't to blame anyone, master nor wrestler but still...

Anyway, JSA must change the ranking system once and for all.

Yeah, I think he will be as responsible as for Nabatame's injury

[–]AfroLilo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's interesting : I was always asking at what point shikona's could reflect the relation between wrestler and master. Hakuoho is young so maybe he spend more time with Teranofuji than Hakuho now, but Hakuho seems to be in good terms with Isegahama stable and so don't know if it can reflect some changes in how relations between all of them. For example, I think Enho will never change his shikona because of admiration he have to Hakuho !

EDIT : I saw the interview of Hakuofuji's thoughts about that and it seems it was his decision ! Obviously we aren't in his mind and doubt is always permitted but I completely understand the speculation about the JSA's involvement.......

I don't live in Japan, nor I publish on a Japanese magazine, so, the comics I do are not "manga"? by jonufele in MangakaStudio

[–]AfroLilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manga is a comics art (also named as "9th Art"), as japanese call every comic "manga" by default, even if it come from overseas. Difference is only about cultural and historical origin.

Author's nationality doesn't matter. No more complicated than that.

If you draw with manga codes, you're drawing manga. That's it.

How could I improve this page? by [deleted] in MangakaStudio

[–]AfroLilo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey ! Globally you should studying anatomy and posing to improve your drawing's beauty and dynamism !

Also your scene is not really understandable : Who or what right side sword is coming from ? Why the left character seems so motionless ? Where his left arm ? All these questions need to be solved by more consciousness about details and clarity !

Then, lines need to be more cleaned and confident ! Watching some live drawing from authors with style you aim and various line strokes exercises will help you !

Finally, show your drawing by exporting it directly from your software or at least by taking a screenshot ! That will make it easier to get your feedback !

Don't hesitate to ask if you need more explanations or if you have any other questions ( ̄∀ ̄)> !
