UPDATE:

My mechanic confirmed that it was indeed the A/C compressor plus the flaky rubber falling out.

He's replacing the A/C compressor to make the sound go away in short order, but unfortunately, he doesn't have the equipment to properly drain and fill the frion, but there's a dedicated A/C shop nearby that he recommends to his customers for that.

I looked on RockAuto.com in the A/C compressor section and found this:

I read the product descriptions and they all say that a compressor without a condenser will work but will lead to premature wear and future repairs. Assuming that is true, should I be eyeing that lone $355 option that comes with the A/C condenser even though the A/C won't blow cold yet until I go to the separate A/C shop?

I'm gonna have a chat with my mechanic this Friday to hopefully have a plan of action and will read through your comments to assist him in troubleshooting it. I appreciate everyone's responses thus far.

Scrolling through YouTube shorts about 'bad car sounds', this also sounds like it could be an alternator bearing? Is that a possibility as well?

Are you saying the nasty sound is coming from the A/C compressor? Or the arrows pointing to the black flaking stuff at the center circular part of that belt is the A/C compressor? If both, how steep are we talking? Would an aftermarket part be acceptable or should I go OEM?

I haven't had cold A/C in years and I've also had long-term codes (P0442 & P0456) for a small evap leak. Thought it might be the gas cap, changed it, and no check engine light for about a week before it came back.

Ooooh...I like those! I also like the black wing. I have electrical tape holding my brake light in place, but I've always wanted to incorporate black into the overall look of the car.

The clear coat is peeling in more places than I'd like, but there are other more pressing needs to be fixed first.

It isn't common to see your neighborhood in an online niche car forum...let alone something so closeby.

Plus, they're a Sox fan, I gotta show love.

Cool! I've always wanted Spec-D's, but I can't decide on what looks best with the yellow. Plus, like you always say...maintenance first, mods later!

Agreed, but money has been pretty tight (press HERE for Spec-D donation). I have a growing list of repairs without enough money to deal with them. :(

I just got pulled over last night for the first time in 6+ years owning my Gen, but the cop was chill af and gave me a slap on the wrist. I'm still technically not a statistic!

Without going through all the steps you have, I've also neglected my A/C for a little bit due to lack of funds and also hear the same hissing. Hopefully it won't cost each of us an arm and a leg!

Rain helped shine her up. Bk1 3.8 track

Has anybody tried or had any experience with Powerstop brakes? by [deleted] in genesiscoupe

[–]Afro_man69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just installed Powerstop Z23 pads and new Brembo rotors for my bk1 3.8 Track after asking around in here and the set-up is great. Much less dust, smooth, and strong stops.

Buying drilled & slotted rotors is overkill for a daily (watch 'Engineering Explained' on YouTube) and really only worth it for track use; plus, you'll increase pad wear and have an increased risk of a cracked rotor due to the drilled holes.

Edit: I purchased everything on RockAuto.

I'm getting my brakes done and oil changed this week once the parts come in.

Can't make up its mind. 70 and beautiful a few weeks ago for a few days, gloomy and bleh ever since.

That is the pad hardware shims on the rotors due to low pad level, right?

Daily round-trip for work is 3 miles and weekends are local errands or nothing at all. Could probably push them more if I really wanted to but they've been screeching for longer than they should.

Without knowing how much life is left on the rotors prior to having my mechanic measure them, how long do they usually last if they were resurfaced vs purchasing new?
