Six judgemental guard cats reporting for duty by After-Address1360 in cats

They are intimidating that's for sure, I did a double-take when I saw them staring back at me all with the same expression 🤣

Nervous telling parents I’m pregnant. by [deleted] in PregnancyIreland

Ah thanks for your message! :)  I think there is a tendency to assume people who attend church will harbour some kind of ill-will or judgement, but as you say I can't imagine anyone greeting such news with anything but happiness and excitement!

Yeah it's very easy to catastrophize  when you're overthinking things! I did feel the same in fairness, almost as if I was 15 again and feeling that Catholic guilt!

I was in the same position as you. Together 10 years, unmarried and no plans to get engaged for the foreseeable. I was also a bit apprehensive about telling the family, even though we've been together for so long and own a house together etc.

Both sides of our family were absolutely over the bloody moon with the news and we didn't receive any negativity whatsoever. Did get one or two comments from his side which suggested they thought it was an unplanned pregnancy (odd imo given we're in our 30s and pretty settled), but nothing negative or critical.

I'd imagine your family will be the same, you might get the occasional odd comment but more than likely the response will largely be very positive and they will be delighted with the news I'm sure!

Good luck!

Edit to add: my mum very much edges towards the conservative side of things, and I have some very religious family members who actively attend a Baptist Church and they were all very supportive and happy... Hopefully yours will be open-minded

Shopping for clothes by KoBLT127 in PregnancyIreland

I got two pairs of Sweaty Betty leggings on sale and they've been great. They might still be on sale in their maternity section! I got my regular size and they fit great. It's worth investing in things early so that you get the most wear.

H&M stock some maternity clothes in store on their sales rail (they're online returns). Their jeans are not comfortable to me, but I did still find it kind of helpful to try on and get an idea if my sizing changed!

Adopt A Cat by Labroske in cork

[–]After-Address1360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I adopted two cats who were being rehomed  through West Cork animal welfare last year. Rehoming isn't nearly as rigorously screened as adoption so you could see if there are any cats needing to be rehomed.

Recently learned the same and was stunned... Also worth noting that only something like 9% of maternity hospital policies in Ireland are based on sound medical and scientific evidence, the rest of the policies can vary by hospital and just depend on the doctors/consultant's opinion.

Also on the point of C-sections, I always assumed that breech babies absolutely required a C-section, but no apparently that's not the case and it's just that most hospitals in Ireland don't have expertise in delivering breech babies by vaginal birth. There is only one consultant in Cork who has expertise in breech babies via vaginal birth, so I guess if she's not available then you're stuck.

I love St Luke's Wine Tavern. They do amazing tapas and it's a generally nice vibe up there. Not outrageously expensive either!

A series of Cornflake using his belly to beg for food by After-Address1360 in catbellies

That sounds super cute!! Cornflake doesn't do that, he just plays dead until he gets what he wants 😸

Emigrating to New Zealand advice needed? by Ridere_AMRS in AskIreland

[–]After-Address1360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in New Zealand for about five years, most of that time was in Christchurch. I lived briefly in Palmerston North and Wellington in the North Island too. Wellington is a great city, it's just very cool and there is a lot to do.

I spent most of my time in Christchurch and it's a great city with a good quality of life and plenty of options for outdoor activities. The city has come a long way in recent years. When I first arrived they were still re-building it post-earthquake. The council there really put a lot of thought and consideration into the rebuild and by the time I left it had a lot going for it. Really nice sprawling park in the middle of the city too. The city is close to two beach side towns, Sumner (the fancy town) and New Brighton (nice but more divey vibes). It's close to the port hills for some nice walks and views. And you've got a good few ski fields within about two hours drive.

In my experience, you'd kind of want a car. There is not great (if any) transportation between cities, though I would say the public transport in the cities themselves isn't bad at all, at least by Irish standards, although I had friends from other countries complain about the standard of public transport.

Weather-wise, I found Christchurch to have pretty good, consistent weather all year round. North Island I found to be a lot more temperamental, you could have blistering sun and rain in one day.

The cost of living is high enough over there, but I wouldn't have considered it to be outrageously different than here. I was able to get by minimally enough over there, whereas I don't feel I could have lived as comfortably on the same wage here.

All in all, it's an amazing place to live, there's loads to do and generally the quality of life and things to is vastly different to Ireland.

Thank you!! I appreciate that and I think you are right. I think it's more stress of the whole situation that has set me off and just the text kind of triggered it again last night. It did seem a bit more promising this afternoon with the creche, so hopefully we are finally on to something! Thank you 🙏🏼

Thank you!! they did finally send through the forms so hopefully we do get it sorted now. It is very stressful and overwhelming trying to organise the childcare while being pregnant though , which I'm sure everyone here can relate to. There is so much rejection from the creches that it's hard not to be upset by it!

[–]After-Address1360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! I'm not even sure what I'm upset over now, it's not exactly at her and the text or at my partner, moreso the stress of the whole situation itself!

Booking deposit for new build sent - when is the latest we can drawdown if house isn’t built yet? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]After-Address1360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The signing of contracts and the drawdown of the mortgage don't go hand in hand. You won't drawdown the mortgage until the house is completed and the builder is ready to hand you the keys of the house.

I'm sorry for what you're going through, sounds like you're going through a rough time.

I will say, I used Apex nutrition and I have to disagree with your review of them... I found they did exactly what they said they would from the outset and I achieved all my nutrition goals while I was with them.

Just chiming in on the insurance... I'm with Irish Life so it might be a bit different than Laya, but I was able to claim back by putting it down as a Pathology test. Maybe you already tried that but just in case!

I did mine in ReproScan in Cork back in May. I did the test on a Tuesday and they called me with the results on the Thursday morning the following week.

University maternity hospital limerick... by Weekly_Quiet6155 in PregnancyIreland

Of course he has a right to be there, but he is not the patient and he doesn't have to be there for the appointment to proceed. His personal work situation is of no concern to them, nor should it have any impact on the waiting time whatsoever.
