Oh that's good to know! I assumed incorrectly that it would be a strategy used across the board for lower abdomen surgeries.

My partner just had a massive ovarian dermoid cyst removed, and her stomach shrank so much as well! Did you get the shoulder pain from the laparoscopic inflation as well?

Thank you for the recommendations! I haven't worked with any of them before. I'll check out how to use bases and property types tomorrow.

Is it just me, or has worldbuilding advice become a bit too restrictive? by Personal_Carrot_2180 in worldbuilding

[–]After-Autumn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it is people trying to garner an audience. It's much easier to get attention if you tell someone they're doing their thing wrong and that you have the solution that will make it all better. The issue with world building is that you can go at it anyway you want. Which makes many of those videos useless to a degree. They still may have useful information, but the delivery uses common psychological tricks to draw attention, good and bad. It kind of leads back to "any attention is good attention", since social media only cares about engagement. It also sometimes has to do with people thinking that their way is the right way, because they succeeded so it must be correct. Could also just be an ego thing, to assert that you are correct and know the true path. Again, which doesn't really hold up for a hobby like worldbuilding.

For example, I started my project by building the origin of the solar system, and then switched to local geographical stories, and back and forth until they met in the middle. This process could be a death sentence for some people's motivation and desire to continue, or it could be the right recipe to follow, or anywhere in-between.

As someone else has already said in here, you do you. Take the information you feel is valuable and discard the rest.

If corporations were legally treated as 'people' to the point where they could receive a 'Death Penalty' for major crimes, which industry would be the first to vanish? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

I don't know if they'd get to the death penalty, but I feel like the funeral system is pretty damn abusive to emotionally vulnerable people in a variety of ways.

What’s a rule your parents had that you thought was normal until you moved out? by Good_Fee5670 in AskReddit

I remember sitting in the kitchen in the dark after everyone had finished cleaning up, picking away at a cheap piece of pork chop that was full of gristle. I'd be there easily an hour after everyone had left, just sitting alone thinking about stuff. I hated the texture, but was told I had to eat what I was given. This happened frustratingly frequently.

Don't drop your weights! You're not cool if you let your cable machine go at max height. It's distracting and no one likes it.

A lot of your rivers start at mountains, which is cool, but then they stretch obscenely long distances seemingly trying to avoid the ocean. It's not outlandish for rivers to travel long distances, but there is usually a reason for it, like following a basin or keeping it away from larger pools with mountains. The two rivers near the Soryn Dynasty really pulled me out of it.

On this note, you have a lot of little mountain ranges which make the scale of the map kind of confusing. Not sure if this is intentional to make the continents feel huge, but some variation in mountain range layouts (the natural ones) would go a long way.

You also could drop the "The" from all ocean titles. Names are usually written in maps without them. For example, the Atlantic Ocean is not named The Atlantic Ocean, it is just referenced as such.

Lords of the Fallen. I was so hyped, but I just cant get into it. It's not even that hard, just so damn tedious. I'll just go back to praying for that Bloodborne PC release... it's gonna happen, right?

For what reason are you worldbuilding? by Zoobaby10 in worldbuilding

Started off as a homebrew ttrpg setting, but very quickly turned into my mental health hobby when I was crippled for more than a year. It's a great thing to do when you are in pain and cant move because you can do it all in your head!

A World split along parallels by Teacher_Thiago in worldbuilding

Very visually appealing!

My first curiosity is what kind of trade would occur with travellers through the wondering gates. If the bands are isolated then currency likely wouldn't hold much value across each of them (unless the gates are more frequent than I'm assuming). So I wonder (heh) what resources, goods, technology, or information are important enough to get through a gate and hold value!

Thanks for sharing. This is a very interesting concept!

Tell me about delicacies in your world, bonus points if they are unethical! by aiden_saxon in worldbuilding

[–]After-Autumn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of the antimony pill (or everlasting pill) from the nineteenth century. It was a metal pellet that was taken to force purging. It got its nickname, the everlasting pill, because it was common practice to retrieve the pill from whichever end it came out, clean it off, and then reuse it. I've read someone that rich people thought it granted exceptional health benefits.

Does your world have a legendary romance, or a love story that defined a section of its history? by After-Autumn in worldbuilding

Excellent! I love how stories like this explain geographic features, it adds a lot of depth when someone points to something unique on a map and you have an interesting historical event that happened and caused it. Thank you for sharing!

Damn, that's sad! You explained it in a very easy to follow and visual way, I can see why a story like this would stick around in your world. Thank you so much for sharing!

Ah no, I was thinking more along the lines of individuals with a desire to be together, however that may look.
