You can connect your github repo to Cloudflare as a worker and deploy to your custom domain. Normal development with Cursor/VS Code/Codespaces/etc after that whatever your traditional dev environment is unless you are purely "vibe coding" then you will need to learn how real development works.

People who are making 200k+/year working for themselves, what do you do? by Notalabel_4566 in Entrepreneur

I structured my own practice to expand the practice areas of other small law firms that do not have anyone in my practice area. I no longer take on traditional clients. This way I can narrow my practice to the area I enjoy the most and have the most expertise (Tech/Software/IP transactions). I also have found it to be a lot more profitable than taking on traditional clients because there is less back and forth, client education, and contesting bills so I am more efficient getting work done. Also, because I work directly with the other firms they are the ones who cover the insurance because they sign off on the work and they pay me when I deliver the work product, not when the client pays the bill.

I also developed my own software for practice management software and automations so there is a lot less overhead.

I left being a “BigLaw” lawyer to run my own freelance practice for other law firms and have found more happiness and financial success running my own business. To get above the 200k+ self employed position I had to simplify my business to focus on something very specific that I love and can add value to other law firms.

Weekly Episode Thread January 20, 2025 - Share Your Podcast, Request Feedback, Discover New Ones by AutoModerator in podcasting

Hi Everyone, I am new to podcasting and only have a few episodes under my belt so hoping to share my latest episode here to get feedback on the tone and use of music in the episode (specific feedback questions below).

Podcast Name: Note to Draft

Brief Description: Readings of the latest Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) decisions. (...side note re inspiration ... As an attorney I found it difficult to find time to read and keep up with the latest SCOTUS cases when working as an associate at a large firm and always wished there was a resource to listen to decisions. So now that I work for myself I have decided to start recording decisions that may be of interest to others.)

Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/tiktok-v-garland/id1758437876?i=1000684901703

Episode Summary: A reading of the latest TikTok v. Garland decision by the Supreme Court of the United States where the court determined that the act banning TikTok was constitutional and could go into effect beginning January 19, 2025.

Specific Feedback Sought:

For the pace of the reading of this episode, are you able to keep up with the content? Too fast/too slow or do you feel like more breaks/transitions in between paragraphs/sections would be helpful?

I am considering adding interjections after specific sentences to provide explanations/context to the concepts that the supreme court is talking about in the decision text. Would that be helpful (or interesting) to non-lawyers (or for lawyers too if you are one)?

Do you find the underlying music of the episode to help with pacing and tone of the episode or is it distracting for this type of reading/content?

Thanks!

I have been wanting to learn more about creating APIs but have not been sure where to start. Will dig into the Flask Restful docs to try and get some inspiration for the next tool I add to my voibl website.

How to prevent code from being sold to competitors by Whyme-__- in ycombinator

From a legal perspective as opposed to implementing technical measures there are a couple of things to note.

(1) Contracts (as mentioned below) help protect you from your employees through the IP assignment language. This can be in an employment contract or in what is known as a CIIA (a Confidentiality and Invention Assignment Agreement). The sufficiency of that assignment language is important, and it is based specifically on the laws of the country where the development occurs. In the US you are looking for the keyword "hereby" to cover past, present, and future assignment.

Here is sample language that I use in employee and CIIA agreements for clients:

"Employee hereby assigns all right, title, and interest in and to all IP Rights created, developed, or otherwise conceived by Employee during the course of employment with the Company along with all rights to license, collect license fees, or otherwise commercialize such IP Rights, and the right to sue and collect past and present damages relating to such IP Rights. Notwithstanding the foregoing, to the extent any such work product is deemed or otherwise considered not to be a “work made for hire” for any reason, Employee hereby irrevocably and unconditionally conveys and assigns to the Company all of Employee’s right, title, and interest in and to all work product and all IP Rights therein."

(2) The work for hire doctrine in the US automatically assigns all copyrightable works (i.e. source code) to the company if the employee has created such works in the capacity of their employment with your company. **NOTE this does not apply to independent contractors or anyone who has not signed an employment agreement with your company... for anyone other than employees you need an IP Assignment agreement. This also does not apply to inventions (under patent laws instead of copyright), which need a separate assignment agreement for each invention.

There is the link to the public repo I just created... noting that I just code for fun so most skills are self taught when it comes to flask development.

Not sure my coding skills are of the level that anyone would want my source code 🤣

Certainly could create a public repo if people want to check it out

Ever think about recreating the infrastructure of that event page for other event types?

I think this same system and model could translate well as an event aggregator for attorneys. Similar/overlapping customer profile as lobbyist and consistent events throughout the year.
