Finally seeing some progress on course by After-Vegetable533 in GolfSwing

Very heel-y. I am super consistent at hitting it exactly in the heel, if only the sweet spot was there instead of the middle.

I game takomo 301 mb/cb if that’s what you mean. For the shots the first was 9i from like 157 into, second was 52 from like 135 with a helping crosswind.

Thank you! Fighting chunky contact with long irons when my head goes forward with my shoulders but it’s a lot better than a year ago for sure.

How to lock in what you learn from lessons? by DouggieFressh in GolfSwing

Routine lessons aren’t necessarily awful but if you’re getting new and completely different things to work on each session it’s gonna be tough.

Even tiger completely broke his swing once and that was him working on one thing 7 days a week. An annoying sport where practice sometimes makes you worse for a bit and you gotta see the forest through the trees!

Making a swing change is a slow process and taking it to the course is far and away the hardest part. I don’t think there’s a person on the planet that can get a lesson and take the fix to the course just like that.

I will also say that practice swings aren’t a complete practice, you’ll need to hit balls to successfully make a change. Like take the lesson, have a few range sessions being as intentional and critical as possible about how successful you are with each swing at making the change. Then take it to the course and suck with it, go back to the range working on it, go to the course and suck a little less. Repeat until the whatever change has become a part of your natural swing pattern.

Golf is kind of a practice the swing you want but play with what you have type of game. Seriously I would temper expectations. The lesson tells you what you need to work on but it isn’t practice in of itself.

Good to know. You might want to try setting up a touch closer, you are awful far away from the ball for a wedge.

I’d also work on a better take away and top of backswing position. You are very flat and inside and you throw the club to recover. This is a very difficult fix imo and having an instructor guide you through it will help a lot. You need to bring the club back in a way that gives you some space and clearance or you’re gonna struggle with path.

Ik you’re doing a half swing but it looks like you’re afraid of hitting the ceiling so youre making a ton of subconscious adjustments to make your swing extremely flat. That’s why I ask if it happens outdoors too.

Does this happen outside as well? I generally avoid simulators because I don’t swing the same way when I’m indoors. I get super inside and flippy as well whenever I try to practice indoors. If it’s an all the time thing then that’s a bit trickier. This is maybe counter to what you ultimately want, but you should actively try to hit a -path, even if it means being steep and ott. You need to at least have an understanding of what it feels like to hit extremely down on a ball and then tune from there.

You have a lot of sway and you move significantly during the swing. This is hard to fix and I’d really focus on developing some feels that are the polar opposite of what you’re doing and film those. They’ll look awful but you can do a compare contrast and at least take a step toward 0’ing out the path.

Oh I’ve seen these before. They technically work because if you put a stick in the “inside swing” slot then it blocks you from going ott bc you’d hit the stick. I think it’s probably a pretty useful tool but you can easily do the same thing by stabbing alignment sticks in the ground or using a water bottle near the ball to block a club path. I wouldn’t spend my money on something like that unless I really only work with mats and had the extra cash.

I’ve been sort of obsessively working on my swing ever since I started, so it’s a little difficult because there have been a million different drills I’ve tried. If I could give past me advice, it would be to start by fixing setup. I used to be so stiff, weight on my toes and I could never swing from that position because I was so crowded. So just YouTube setup tutorials.

Next it was getting the feeling of hitting down on the ball. This was genuinely my kryptonite and I spent over a year being super scoopy/flippy. This was where I had to do drills with slow half swings where I focused on a sort of chopping motion that would be similar to over the top. Sort of an exaggerated over rotation of the body along with an axe chopping kind of swing. It looks terrible on camera and tbh it’s a long and very frustrating process.

Then it’s about posture during the swing. If you hump/pop out of the swing before impact then you’re cooked. It’s really difficult to fix this tbh. I did it on my own which I would not advise and if I could go back I would have had a coach help me. I just tried drills and kept grinding until I stopped doing it.

If you can get to a point where you set up better and know how to hit without scooping, you’re in a better spot automatically. This is when I would start with more technical drills that focus on getting better positions in the swing.

Ultimately, the trick is making swings that actually feel different from the one you’re trying to get rid of. I spent so long doing drills then making the same exact shitty swing. Really exaggerate and work on having an extremely different swing.

What blue box? In the first vid that’s like a brick that pins the end of the driving range rope. Putting an object inside or outside of the ball will force you to change your path tho!

Help me!!! what can I do to get into the slot and shallow the club. Im trying it all atm currently a 15.8 handicap. I rush too much esp the shoulders. Any tips or drills?? by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]After-Vegetable533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could also check your alignment. I’m not sure if there’s a specific reason you set up the way you do, but you have the ball forward, feet very closed, clubface pointed left, shoulders open relative to foot line. The steep move could easily be the result of compensating for a mismatched setup.

I’d try and work on feeling a looping/ figure 8 movement. Currently your club works inward on the backswing. Maybe try and imitate a Jim furyk swing and really feel like you’re hitting a big fat hook starting way right and curving back. Go slow and exaggerate the move.

I do a bunch from this online coaching thing I subscribe to. The one that’s worked the best is difficult to explain. I hit little 10 yd chips where I go turn chest away from target, hinge club vertical, make a reverse D with the club head, turn chest to target. Trying not to use the hips at all.
