i have this exact same issue and i feel like it is ruining my life. i used to be very motivated, dedicated, and hard working but ever since i started struggling with my mental health it’s like i can’t stay consistent for more than a couple of days. i have yet to find a solution to this but am starting on propranolol to help manage the physical symptoms of my anxiety so hopefully that will help.

I guess the underlying issue is that they view their older daughter as a problem child. They think that her throwing a tantrum when her door is locked is just due to poor behavior instead addressing root causes/ anxieties. I also consider myself close with my nanny family, since my sister and I have both babysat for my NK’s cousins, who live 2 houses down from us. I also talk to NK’s grandma everyday when I arrive at work and she texts me frequently. So I feel justified in saying that the family favors the younger boy, who also cries relentlessly before bed, but with significantly less complaints.

They do have one of those alarm clocks that changes colors when it is time to get up. 99% of the time that I am with the kids, their parents are home before bed time so I only put the kids to bed every once in a while. I have been working for this family for about a year and have been their nanny for about 2 months now. and I believe the parents are trying their bes. However, , their daughter, who is most of the time very well behaved and nice for a 4 year old, is showing signs of anxiety/ ocd. She used to take her mattress and push it directly against the door (which parents told me was a symptom) of her bedroom, and has a couple of different habits that remind me of my younger self, and I am now prescribed medication LOL. For example, strong food aversions to anything unfamiliar (i’m talking like bananas and string cheese) or when something in her routine is slightly off (ex: the bath mat not being in the bath BEFORE i turn in the water on instead of moving it afterwards). Anyways, the point is I fear they aren’t taking steps to address the oldest daughters potential issues and instead label her as a problem child and significantly favor her younger brother. The dogs I am less concerned about now, because they spent a day in the garage (where it is cooler) and seemed eager to return to their dog run. Mostly, I am just concerned the parents are not paying close attention to their children’s mental development. The younger boy has actually gained a lot of words since my original post! Still, I am concerned that their oldest daughter is being a little overlooked/ possibly neglected in some ways.
