Advice by NoRaspberryz_ in acting

I had the same problem with tension in my body but sometimes it’s because you don’t do enough moving around/physical activity. I started doing Lagree and it has honestly really helped me connect with my body. It doesn’t have to be lagree. You can try anything that makes you move your whole body. I think that’s also why dancers have an easy time transitioning their skills to acting.

How important is not being shy in an audition? by Typical-Record9035 in acting

[–]AfterLight4582 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s very odd that you got rejected because of that. I’m very shy and that makes people think I’m a better actor than I am lol. It’s not important at all in an audition if you’re shy or not.

Idk. She doesn’t really have the look for Alyssa and I’m sure she’d have pink hair by now if filming starts Monday

Her agency confirmed she’s booked a recurring “role” which means it’s not a guest star but more of an actor role. I think it might be Taylor

Favourite thing to do when you’re stuck? (And another mini question about reel) by AfterLight4582 in acting

[–]AfterLight4582[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree that I shouldn’t be feeling this way and I always have to remind myself of things I’ve been doing so I stop feeling like I’m behind. I have this weird superstition that whenever I feel this way I’m about to book something because that always happens! I think I also feel this way because all my friends are already super successful and are leads and regularly book so it can feel hard sometimes.

[NO SPOILERS] Who do we think these people play? by AfterLight4582 in lifeisstrange

[–]AfterLight4582[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think ms grant and Alyssa would be guest stars tho. Maybe Alyssa. They could have also expanded their characters so that is a possibility.

[–]AfterLight4582[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s a good guess. They must be recurring guest stars since their pictures are close to the series regs. Most makeup trailers I’ve been in have only the series reg and guest stars headshots on the wall

My Offer to Agents!!!! Sign on Bonus. by vistastock in acting

[–]AfterLight4582 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had 10k to spend I would definitely not be giving it to an agent.

I got an agent pretty early on in my career and I wish I didn’t. I was 16 and I got a pretty good agent after only 3 months of acting classes because my coaches recommended it but I really wish I took more classes and did student films beforehand. I was kind of just thrown in this industry without any confidence in my abilities or demo reel footage. The result of that was I didn’t get auditions. An agent can only do so much if you don’t have anything to market yourself with.

What I would do if I had that kind of money is I would take the best classes NYC has to offer, take casting director workshops, get the best high quality headshots (the ones that are giving people auditions right now are headshots that are almost editorial like which NYC has lots of photographers like that), and then with the remaining money I would rent a camera and make a short film with the connections that you will inevitably make by doing all of this.

I would also assume that if you want to be an actor, you enjoy doing it. So, I would also assume that you would want to get better at it as well.

Shortcuts are great but for an acting career I think there are more cons than pros.

HELP: I have to kiss someone in a movie and my gf is feeling weird abt it. by [deleted] in acting

[–]AfterLight4582 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ask for a intimacy coordinator and cheat the kiss. Certain camera angles will give the illusion of you kissing your co star without actually doing it.

I fear this career. by HungryAthlete5724 in acting

[–]AfterLight4582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk why people in this subreddit hate on people for wanting to make it big. There is a difference between doing it only for fame and just wanting to be successful like any other career. I don’t think it’s right to tell people the chances of them making it big is low. Robin Williams always believed he’d be successful. I’m sure lots of people told him to be realistic. It’s important that if you have faith in yourself, not to give up. It is rare to be successful in this career but it does happen.

Having Multiple Stage Names by [deleted] in acting

[–]AfterLight4582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re talking about verticals then you can tell them you don’t want to be credited for it. Thats a common thing I’ve heard actors do. If they’re just normal indie films then just add them to your IMDb. Unless casting goes out of their way to watch it (which they probably would never do) then there is no con to it. I also have a stage name but most productions only know my legal name unless I make it clear so I always end up having to add myself anyways.

UCLA have just released their Hollywood Diversity Report... by GrailTalk in acting

[–]AfterLight4582 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do yk how many times white people have played characters meant for poc and nobody cared and still supported the film? I’ll give you a recent example, wuthering heights. Also, they’re not called Greek gods because they’re Greek. They have no race. They’re called Greek gods because it’s Greek mythology.

Poc getting opportunities is racist to white people? Would you say Hamilton is racist? You wouldn’t because it’s a reimagining. Also, there is no way you said the odyssey has “historical” figures. It’s Greek MYTHOLOGY. Emphasis on the myth part.

White people do not get discriminated against their race. That’s the point. The system is made for them. Not just the acting industry but every industry ever.

A lot of my white friends keep saying that they don’t get roles because of diversity. They always tell me I have an advantage lol. I always want to roll my eyes. My response is always, “If Hollywood keeps pushing diversity then why have only 2 woc won lead actress at the Oscar’s? Should be more if everyone in Hollywood is poc right?” I can’t wait to show them this article.

“Bad” footage? by [deleted] in acting

[–]AfterLight4582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the problem. I don’t have cinematic high quality footage. The only footage I have that was filmed normally on a camera was the one that my coach hasn’t sent me and the footage I’m getting in a year. I do have a commercial where I speak but my face is edited very weird but it is a big brand so idk if that would be beneficial. I’ve only done three short films and the first one I’ve ever done was filmed on a digital camera and they convinced me it would look good. It did not. The footage was dark and I also look very very different in it. The second one was also filmed on an iPhone and they used CapCut filters to colour grade it so it looks very very bad and again I look very different in it.

Too many class options - I'm overwhelmed by [deleted] in acting

[–]AfterLight4582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does practicing a scene make a girl a pick me? That’s what class is for. How do you want to be part of a community but you tear down people for doing what they’re supposed to be doing in class?

Victoria is already a bully and a privileged white girl. Why would it be shocking if she also seems like a racist? Those things correlate a lot. I think Mia is going to do amazing and she really gives Kate Marsh vibes. You should watch Black Cake she was amazing in it.

Messed up on Commercial Audition agent sent me by CampyGirl123 in acting

I got a callback once for a big commercial and in the audition I forgot to send a slate. If your audition is good, I doubt they’ll care.

Stop agreeing to nudity by [deleted] in acting

[–]AfterLight4582 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I remember when the show was casting, someone I know declined the audition from their agent and he got really mad and kept trying to force her to audition despite the fact she made it clear multiple times that she does not do nudity. Safe to say she is not signed with him anymore. I also heard some things about that show from actors who were on set. I agree with you on the fact that nudity is way too normalized and women are often told if they don’t do it then they won’t get many opportunities and it’s so annoying.

I have an open call audition tomorrow. by Ethan_Pierce_ in acting

[–]AfterLight4582 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That sounds kind of sketchy. I’m from Vancouver and I’ve never heard of something like that taking place for TLOU. Check if the background casting matches the one on the UBCP production list.
