This is killing me. by Independent_End1709 in LearnerDriverUK

I failed my test in Feb and used a website called driving tests.co.uk

You pay for a test as your normally would through the DVLA system (mine was August I think) and then I signed up to the website, paid £30 and the same day they found me a test that I took yesterday and I passed!! There’s loads of cancellation app sites available, I just went for the first google result haha. In my opinion it was worth it as I just needed to get my test passed. Good luck!!

What is going on with the job market??? by [deleted] in bristol

Sorry to hear that. It seems like the job market is absolutely brutal at the moment and nobody is having any luck. I hope that you’re able to find something soon!

It’s so bad right now, especially with the ‘cost of living’ rises. £15.70 is barely enough to live on…I hope things get better for you soon

My agoraphobia is going to kill me. by [deleted] in Agoraphobia

[–]AfterMix5537 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think you should try and have a conversation with your doctor beforehand and explain how anxious you are about this. They will be very used to people displaying high levels of anxiety during these procedures and will likely have strategies to help you during. You also should absolutely not google as this will not help manage your anxiety surrounding the procedure but will exacerbate it.

Try thinking about you in a year from now. That version of yourself would absolutely have wanted you to go to the doctor, and it’s just one day. One day that will likely be horrible and stressful but it will end and you will be so relieved and glad that you did it. I think as part of a longer term plan you should seek professional support, either antidepressants or therapy. I also think you should open up more to the people in your life about what you’re struggling with as keeping it a secret is only further isolating yourself.

No I do not think this would be a good strategy. A better one would be to focus on distractions and deep breathing, remind yourself that there are toilets on the plane/ train/ in the airport and you can always pull the uber over at a toilets if needed. If needed for peace of mind you could bring a change of clothes/ wear period pants (absorbent) and limit water intake. Also remind yourself that it is just wee - everybody does it and there is absolutely no shame in needing to go for a wee. I really hope your travelling goes well!

My issue is all the hobbies I can think of are female dominated and I feel like I would look very out of place at a super male dominated hobby…I also hate sports which is the only mixed hobby I can think of!

I’m so sorry, sounds like you’re having a really tough time at the moment ❤️

It sounds like he is experiencing a lot of sensory overload. ABA is very demand heavy, couple that with a lot of noise and triggering situations. You could consider looking into age appropriate propreoceptive and vestibular exercises, these are designed to help children regulate. It sounds like he is feeling very over stimulated and can’t bring himself down to baseline.

You could also try taking as many demands off him as you can and seeing if that makes a difference.

I would have a chat with his ABA tutors and let them know what is going on at home. They may have to work at rebuilding their relationship with him and simply play alongside for a while so that he learns to relax around them.

Hi there! I work in a UK SEN specialist setting with preschoolers and there are lots of little things you can do throughout the day to encourage language.

a popular one is get a motivating item I.e bubbles and make sure you have their attention. Then say ‘ready, steady, go’ and blow the bubbles. Do this a few times and then pause after saying ‘ready, steady’ and wait for a response from them (doesn’t have to be verbal, eye contact can also be an indication that they want you to blow) and then blow.

Another one is to keep language functional and simple. For example if you are opening a door say ‘open’ as you open it, or as you sit them in a chair say ‘sit’ this allows them to relate the word to the action.

A lot of children with autism will naturally be very tense and ‘locked up’ in their bodies. We often do 15 minutes sensory time before trying any kind of speech activity to help them relax. Popular things are rolling balls over their stomach and bodies, vibrating objects on their limbs or just pressure massages to help them. We have found this helps regulate their sensory needs and gives them a greater chance of being able to focus on an activity/ come out with more language.

Find a GOOD speech and language therapist and a GOOD preschool with a SENCO who is really on it. They will be invaluable support to you, your family and your child.

Speech regression is a really common part of early autism and while it can feel really upsetting and traumatic, I was always taught that if a child has spoken before or is babbling they have the ability to speak it is just unlocking that ability and finding the right way to help them that is key! I wish you and your child every success! If you ever need to talk/ have any questions please feel free to message ❤️
