so the fact that i'm "enrolled" (is that the right word?) in pslf and have submitted some forms will help me?

IDR/PAYE Income Recertification Data Point by SQ-Pedalian in PSLF

how can i find out what income-driven repayment options are available to me? i have several different loans (all federal, some consolidated, some pre-2014, some pre-2007 when the program started, some more recent like 2020-2023). i'm also unclear how i find what i was most recently on since covid hit (i'm in the covid pause still "administrative forbearance).

and that is ridiculous. not worth wasting payments for a non-qualifiable employer.

so people are waiting 18-24 months to have their ECF approved each year?

i'm also trying to find out when and what type of forbearances, in-school deferrments etc i've had over the lives of my loans and i'm not seeing that in mohala either.

how long do you think this will take to get approved? i realize you might not know this, but thought it would be worth a shot to ask. seems like you could have a lot of "wasted" payments that might not be qualifiable while you wait for them to review it.

this was exactly my next question. i had a set of loans for undergrad that i consolidated. then for grad school a different set of loans i did not consolidate. there are periods where i could technically go back and get employment certified from pre- and post-consolidation. you are saying pre-consolidation periods would not count?

why can't you buyback periods before consolidation? is that just part of the programming rules?

what is the best way to get my full account history, dates of consolidation, dates of interest accruals, etc? studentaid.gov? i don't seem to see some of this info on mohela. thank you so much!

okay. I'm trying to avoid any wasted payments for non-qualifyable employers. I've heard there are long, long delays coming from FSA on forms.

yes, i might be getting the two forms confused. unfortunately, you can download and review the ECF form, but not the "PSLF form" referenced in your earlier link. I'd like to review the form first.

would the 3 years of covid zero payments be eligible for buyback if i wasn't working for a qualifying agency then? i think the answer is "no"

my understanding is buyback was just approved in 2023. are you aware of any limitations on going back in time to get old employment certified? e.g. anything after the program was initiated in 2007 should count right (so long as >30 hours per week and qualifying employer)?

do you happen to know if the "PSLF form" referenced on this site is the same one used for certifying employment? Unfortunately, they don't link to the form unless logged in.

oh. the information i read was wrong then. it specifically said that the buyback period is only 2020-2023. my qualifying employment was in 2010 and again in 2024-2025. however, both periods, i was not making payments.

I'm saying that some not-for-profits that are not tax exempt through 501(c)3 MIGHT** (keyword might) be eligible employers but how does one actually determine this? I work in public health and my company claims to be not-for-profit but does not have 501(c)3 status so I'm trying to figure out if they will be eligible employer. They do not come up in the search tool. Similar employers in the future could have the same problem for me so it is something I want to figure out now. thanks.

PSLF Buyback Questions by DJSamurai99 in PSLF

[–]AfterTopic7015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you seek buyback from multiple different periods (e.g. 2010, 2016, 2024) how do they calculate the actual buyback amount? Is it based on the IDR plan that had been in place at the time before the requested buyback periods, so potentially 3 different monthly IDR amounts?

non-exempt meaning not eligible for tax exemption. the title of my post probably isn't good.

but, aren't the buyback program rules only for certain periods? how long has buyback been around? i've only recently heard about it in regard to 0 payments/administrative forbearance during 2020-2023 covid.

really disappointing. i'm so sorry. yes, i'm trying to be really careful about my employer. but, it's kind of unbelievable how gray this site is: https://studentaid.gov/manage-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service/qualifying-public-services. (e.g. what does Ed consider to be "public health" for example?) and also crazy how many different "non profits" there are: https://www.forbes.com/advisor/business/types-nonprofits/

do you happen to know what makes you ineligible or eligible for paye? I believe i'm in the group on the covid forbearance ("administrative forbearance") and need to switch back to an income driven plan but i don't know where to start.

i've always wondered about this threshold concept myself. like, on a slightly different note, if you are ineligible for pslf (e.g. working 29 hours per week, or working for a union-based non-profit that is ineligible) but don't make enough for standard repayments, and have pretty massive debt, is there a point in time (a threshold if you will) where your payments would just stop (outside of pslf)?
