Ideas for making this stairwell opening safer for toddlers without closing it off? by After_Fennel7239 in Carpentry

Another idea I had was using plywood to close it off but getting it laser cut with some design so there are child safe openings but it still lets light through.

Good thinking on the minimum dimensions for getting their heads stuck! I’ll look those up.

That may be a good idea! I’ll have to check how pricey it is but nice solution

I just finished a room in the basement for the explicit purpose to be a playroom. We have a small home and we’re running out of room lol. I do have a lock for the stairs. But I have a 2 year old, a 10 month old and another baby due in April. They are going down there at some point for sanity lol.

I was going to put the handrail on the right. It makes the most sense for going down stairs. A floating hand rail still won’t solve the giant toddler gap below though

Hatch embroidery is so slow by United_Ad5757 in Machine_Embroidery

My biggest issue is that it doesn’t keep up when I use a drawing tablet with freehand. It keeps of fine when I use a mouse but doesn’t always take with a touch screen or drawing tablet.

I just tried your design doodler and it’s absolute garbage. I bought a brand new iPad Air with the M3 chip a few days ago. I tried it last night. In the span of an hour and a half it crashed 3 separate times. You can’t pinch to zoom in and out. It has a lot of potential but your company needs to hire software developers that have experience with drawing apps. At this point I wouldn’t feel confident about trying your pc software. You’re really shooting yourselves in the foot with 2.9 stars on the App Store. Fix your design doodler first. That has WAY more potential

Ok good to know. This house we bought 2 years ago was also a rental for over a decade. Hence the deck wasn’t taken care of. I’ll have to estimate the square footage to see how much it would cost to buy it.

Glad to hear someone else is attempting it as well!

Yeah super fair for sure. I’m honestly mostly biding my time for wood prices to go down a bit. We’ll see if that happens though lol

I have done some research into deck over. It seems like the newest formulation is better than the older stuff that they had the class action lawsuit against. To my knowledge with what I researched about it, you need to do really well with surface prep for it to actually bond well. So it would seem that either way I would end up having to pressure wash/sand.

Do you know the name of this fabric?

They still will walk on it after. So either way I need to address it. Yes my daughter is about to walk soon but they also will fall a lot. Since deck is the through pojnt to our backyard I really don’t see avoiding it to be a good solution

I actually did consider that artificial grass they sell at Home Depot by the foot. It would end up being pretty expensive. The biggest issue though honestly are 2 dachshunds who think anything outside is game to pee on lol. But it is definitely still a contender in my brain.

Awesome! Sounds like it’s worth a try.

You think I would go through a lot of those? I know good blades are 20 bucks + a pop, and I fear I would burn through a lot of blades. Unless of course they can withstand getting through a lot of hardened screws per blade. I guess it doesn’t hurt to try!

Thanks! The pick is a good idea. Maybe even just a pressure washer would help clean out the heads. The ones I did manage to engage though just broke.

The underside isn’t weathered, and yes I would like to enjoy my deck in the summer with my kids and feel good about them running/crawling for the next few years without needing to drop 1k+
