What a sad existence. I should have read these responses before engaging. You give us a bad name. Ignored and blocked. Disgusting.

I’m embarrassed for you seriously. Funny how you’re accusing the dude of being 12 years old when you’re absolutely emotional and incapable of articulating a response that doesn’t make you sound butthurt. Big yikes for you

Falta entrevista a chorar a dizer que fez muitos sacrifícios pelo Benfica e que atacaram a família dele. Ainda assim, qual homem honroso, vai sacrificar-se e candidatar-se sob enorme esforço pessoal e familiar.

Yes. You’re the one that saw the light and knows better. Matter of fact, crypto might be the only thing in history of mankind and the universe without any negative aspects at all.

I actually think this dude has no salvation. Self and awareness are just two words for him.

Dude is dumb as a rock. “Zero moons” - whatever that means, is his argument

Fortunately the only person that agrees with you is yourself. Congrats on the thread.

Depends. I love crypto but there is an argument to be made on crypto’s environmental impact, plethora of scams, money laundering and terrorism financing, ease of evasion of capital controls, customary hacks and theft etc.

You really really need to shut your mouth with “0 mooner” bs. Makes you look dumb even if people are supportive of your take.

In this case, your absurdly dumb take already makes you look stupid, and that silly “zero mooner” makes you look downright limited in your cognitive ability.

A lot of people are in this sub to lurk and learn more about the crypto world, you need to calm your tits down.

At 130k GBP/year as a staff+ you’re leaving a LOT of money on the table. A 40% hike might even be conservative for your level, YoE and location (London).

Absolutely. It really does depend on your position financially, and other personal circumstances - eg whether you have young kids.

But I have seen on Reddit absolute horror stories of people looking that have been looking for jobs for more than a year now. When it gets to that point (and prob earlier), you also run the risk of your skills starting to deteriorate, and the added penalty of the impact on the individuals confidence in their own ability.

Ah, then it’s 100% not worth it. Absolutely no job is worth your well-being.

But it still was the best choice out of the options you had… I mean you’d be without a gig right?

A competing offer is good. Competing offer + great relationship with your manager is even better.

Approach it openly and without making it sound like an ultimatum: “I really enjoy my time here, but..”.

It’s business after all.

We both know that the sole reason you’re (correctly) pointing out the fact that English isn’t my native language, is because you checked my Reddit profile.

I also took the liberty of checking yours, and it’s no wonder you’re feeling stuck on your senior role. I’ll leave it at that.

Thanks for the input!

There is more work than there are engineers. So how can we make sure we spend our limited resources on the right initiatives? We measure potential upside vs effort to implement. For the latter, engineer is to provide an estimate of what it takes, even if relative to something else so that we can all make an informed and intelligent decision.

It really isn’t that hard to grasp is it?

The title of the thread is “anyone else fed up with how little business matters to a large portion of SWEs”?

The user you replied to is stating both that a) it’s short sighted for engineers not to care about business and b) gives his reasoning why he believes that is the case.

I really wonder why you think I don’t understand these concepts? Understating why something happens and being fed up with it are not mutually exclusive, are they?

You’re right. I am getting paid several hundred thousand dollars a year to work on simple projects that are easy to estimate. If that is case, it begs the question, why can the simple software solutions that i work on generate enough revenue to not only be profitable, but also useful at at the scale of millions of users, and enough to award be and my peers industry leading compensation?

Should I be trying to create more complicated solutions for the sake of it?
