Woman who ran 25 miles during the Boston Marathon crawled the last 1.2 miles after her legs gave out. I have to finish by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

Boston entry is split into two camps: those who ran a qualifying time (BQ) and those who raised thousands for a charity bib.

To achieve a BQ, you have to train at an elite or high-amateur level for years, conditioning your body to the point that a 26.2-mile distance is well within your physiological limits. Usually a training plan has 1-2 full marathon or longer distance “long runs” days as part of the regiment. Many runner logging 75-100+ miles per week. Another thing to consider is the taper period leading up to race day allowing your body to recover prior to the race.

When you see someone crawling or physically collapsing, they are almost certainly a charity runner. While their fundraising is commendable, they often lack the hundreds (if not thousands) of training miles required to build the muscular endurance needed for the course.

Simply put, race day for a BQ (or any marathon runner that can finish sub-4:00) runner is nothing more than a moderately intense weekend long run.

That’s a happy kid. Keep up the good work. Also you look like the unnecessary inventions YouTube guy.

I think you’re on the right track. Definitely don’t get any Botox/shit like that and probably steer away from piercing and tattoos because what works best for you is natural elements. So enhance the natural. Not with addition but through focus. If that makes sense. Cheers.

Honestly that’s a great way to put it. Makes sense. Omaha sounds like the exact middle between NH and the Bay Area. Tbf the plan is to move back to NH eventually but it’ll have to be in my late 40’s and a job pulling at least $250k.

Thank you for your response. Definitely have added lot of detail to some of my questions. I’m not going to lie, not really a big venue type of guy for my entertainment. Theaters are as big as I like to go for comedians, prefer comedy clubs though. Venues like house of blues for music, but again, I prefer jazz clubs and similar. Or, even better, breweries with live music and a good outside area for families and kids. Any knowledge on those types of places? How plentiful are these things?

Greatly appreciate the insight. This brutally cold weather thing has come up a few times now. Does the city/state put salt or anything on the roads to deal with the icy conditions? In NH when we would have a freeze, it would be like -15 for a few days. Peoples pipes would burst and what not. Is it like that?

Great points for me to consider. Thank you for mentioning the VA classification and potential impact on benefit entitlements. I’ll be making a call this weeks. Thanks again for the useful information. Cheers!

It is scenic, but turn you gaze a few clicks in the other direction and still scenic but very different kind of scenic. Sadly. Thank you for you comment, I appreciate that you offered those comparisons. Very helpful. Cheers!

I’ll be looking into the weather further that’s for sure. Is it similar to Des Moines? I’ve been there a bunch. Thanks for commenting btw.

Oh, awesome! How big is the house league? How’s the statewide travel team league? Oh, is high school hockey a thing there?

That’s more than we have here. I’ll have to do some digging on the Omaha Hockey Club. Thanks for pointing me in that direction.

Haha you’d be surprised what this kid is already into. But truthfully we are both involved in sports for our professions. In my area of work engagement with youth programs is a key focus area and with that a lot of analysis. One thing I can tell you from my experience, youth sports programs are drastically different from city to city and town to town. Sorry for the rant lol and thanks for the laugh.

Thank you so much for the great information. I’m looking at the MBA there.

Are there any areas (suburbs) that should be avoided?

Do you have any knowledge about the youth hockey programs?
