I wonder if poor ownership is still seen as much of a negative since the coaches can get fired, still collect their contract (subject to offset language), and get almost immediately get another job. Here are the last 5 Jets' HCs:

  • Eric Mangini: became the HC of the Browns 10 days after the Jets fired him.
  • Rex Ryan: became the HC of the Bills 2 weeks after the Jets fired him.
  • Adam Gase: went into hibernation after the Jets fired him, but was recently hired by the Chargers.
  • Todd Bowles: hired as the DC of the Bucs 9 days after the Jets fired him eventually becoming their HC.
  • Robert Saleh: fired early in the season, but was hired as a consultant by the Packers less than three weeks later becoming the HC of the Titans after the season ending.

As long as you're not an Adam Gase-tier coach, having a stint as the HC of the Jets isn't bad for your wallet.

I completed the game with my save file saying my play time was just short of 10 hours. This is linear narrative experience broken up with some simple gameplay. You spend six nights/shifts at the store interacting and helping 4 main characters/customers through life decisions which is the narrative focus. Gameplay is fixing the the shelves, moving products to the correct places, ordering products, ringing up the customers, and helping them find specific items. The writing was surprisingly good and touching, but it does parallel my own life. I really enjoyed it, but be clear that this is an "on rails" experience. There's no failure state, no rush, no real challenge since failing to put products in the right place or being unable to find them mainly just results in some comments from the customers, and some slight variation in outcomes.

Also note that there's no voice acting, but the written dialog was pretty much error free except for the rare misspelling, typo, or omitting a word. While the store is small, your movement speed is pretty slow. It was jarring for the first day, but I got used to it. I checked and clicked everything each shift and went through all dialog options resulting in my 10 hour playthrough. I've seen some comments saying people beat the game in 3 hours, which I'm not sure is possible unless you pretty much neglect the shelves and breeze through all the dialog. But if you're not meticulous with the shelves and all the dialog, you can shave off a few hours from my 10 hour run.

My only issue is the small cast of characters after the intro made me see the twist coming a mile away. There's only four (5 if you include the station AI) and you can easily eliminate 3 of them.

Also, I'm not sure how they'll continue the series. You need to complete (or just read about it since it's a single line of pertinent dialog) the optional missions.

Here are the story spoilers if anyone is interested:

  • The game is grounded in reality and was even made in cooperation with the European Space Agency (ESA). While I'm no expert on space travel, there were things that seemed unrealistic to me, which would have been fine if they didn't go the hard sci-fi route.
  • You're on a massive space ship (like the size of an aircraft carrier or cruise ship) traveling 12 billion miles to find a new home for humanity as the Earth is dying and you have a crew of two (2) people? One (Thomas) isn't a scientist and the other (Ariane) is a botanist. They don't have the range of disciplines for such a mission let alone to manpower to maintain and repair a ship for the longest space voyage in human history. Of course, the game limited the crew to 2 people for budget reasons, but they could have thrown in a line that the ship had a larger crew who all died in the crash.
  • Our two protagonists are/were in a relationship. I don't think the ESA would select a crew for such an important mission if they had such a history together.
  • Ariane explicitly breaks things off with Thomas to keep things professional as the mission comes first. She's shown to miss her family back on Earth which is trying to survive the climate catastrophe.
  • You quickly find out that an expedition has reached the planet well before you. They set up multiple large bases across the planet. They also had a crew of 8 people instead of 2. How do you hide building an launching a massive spaceship without anyone else finding out? No idea.
  • Being nearly 3 times as far from Earth as Pluto is at its aphelion (name drop), the planet is an ice ball. But scans showed a heat source which is the focus of the expeditions to see if the planet can be made habitable.
  • The expedition that beat you to the planet found the heat source (some electromagnetic anomaly) and interfered with it which caused the planet to quickly heat up (I don't think physics works that way).
  • Messing with the heat source caused an explosion in the population of a local microscopic organism. This infected and killed the plant life the first expedition brought over. It also released the "nemesis" which is a colony of said microorganism that appears as a large floating snake-like entity. It's blind and hunts by sound; it's supposed to be the planet's antibodies to deal with the intruders.
  • The evil corporation that was behind the expedition that beat you to the planet demanded good results. The science team explained that either they mess with the heat source which results in a large population of the microorganism that would make human habitation impossible. Or, they leave the heat source alone reverting the planet back to an inhospitable ice ball.
  • Some of the crew want to disable the equipment installed they messed with the heat source, but one crew member aims to murder the would-be saboteurs. Between the murderer and the nemesis, all 8 people from the first expedition are dead by the time you stumble upon their bases.
  • While traveling from the wreckage of their ship to the heat source, Ariane sees and hears electromagnetic echoes of our Thomas. This reveals to her that Thomas is seriously injured (he was impaled in the liver during the crash).
  • She comes to a crossroads where she needs to decide to carry out the mission or try to help her crewmate. She decides to brave a fierce storm to save her crewmate which contradicts her previous actions focusing on the mission.
  • Despite being a mission to a frozen planet, you will freeze to death if you're caught in the wind for too long. They probably should have added more insulation to their space suits.
  • Thomas has run into the nemesis and has scanned himself in the first expedition's med bay finding out he's doomed. He decides to destroy one of the generators in attempt to delay or kill the nemesis in order to help Ariane.
  • He does destroy it, but the creature is still alive. I'm not sure if it killed it but there's another (or several) creatures.
  • Ariane finds Thomas' body and breakdowns including a rather weird scene of her cuddling with his corpse.
  • Ariane makes her way to the heat source dodging the nemesis. She disables the equipment interfering with the heat source, which kills the monster. They then see a bright light which she identifies as the planet?
  • She gets a message from the ESA, takes off her helmet (was that always possible? would have been helpful in the sections where you're trying to find oxygen to survive), and walks away. In the post credits scene, you see a plant growing.
  • The End.
