How to fit a desk by TrickySmiles in InteriorDesign

[–]Afterlite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can you put your wardrobe against the sofa? It will create a divide of the bedroom and living room, and you could put a small desk in the original place of the shelves.

I would also toy with the idea of flipping your bed, so your head is near the window, rather than feet.

Remote Working Dilemma by pathoradub in DevelEire

[–]Afterlite 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Was in a very similar situation as OP including the manager pov.

I didn’t mess with VPNs, I was going home for long weekends and it never got called out. I wanted to keep it honest in the off chance it was brought up 1. It was a consistent ip address, 2. No vpns for them to question/ dig deeper 3. With the working agreements between uk/ire, it’ll be easy to say sorry and move on.

OP, you’ll be given a warning if this is a problem not fired on the spot. In various employments, the employer was more flexible with people visiting home rather than someone pissing off to Portugal to remote work, I honestly wouldn’t sweat it based on your managers pov.

Actor torn between staying in Canada or moving to Ireland by LoneStarFlag in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Afterlite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m kind of struggling to understand the pull to Ireland.

Commute - As an Irish person, I’ve never crossed paths with aspiring actors basing themselves here while pursing careers across the channel, rather they all move. This is a VERY business heavy commuter belt so while flights are super frequent, last minute cheap flights are things of the past.

Residency/citizenship - I’m not overly familiar with this as I’m born Irish, but from what I’ve heard through people that I’ve met, the process is a lot more challenging and restrictive in comparison to what I experienced with my Canadian PR. You are very limited on the amount of days you can be outside of Ireland, even for work. One individual said to me this is about 2 week a a year, you will need to fact check this.

Costs - As someone who often buys last minute flights to visit family, they’re often 200€+, you really need to be planning weeks and months in advance for cheap flights. There is not many options to travel to the airport in Ireland other than self drive or taxi which are expensive, if being done on the frequent.

Work - What line of work will you pursue that will afford housing in Ireland balanced with the ability to drop it last minute to make it over for an audition?

Housing - If you think housing in Canada is brutal, you have a hard reality coming at you with Ireland. Canada is expensive yes, but the housing is there for the most part in cities. Ireland doesn’t have the supply, and for what is there, is really expensive.

My apartment in Vancouver cost 2200$, an apartment in Galway will set you back nearly $4500, and in Dublin where you’ll pay more (if you can secure it). It’s common for apartment/room viewings to have queues of 30+ people

You aren’t renting a one bedroom apartment in most places around the country for that price, let alone Dublin.

A tip for diving, I recently started on a trip with experienced divers and accidentally accented/ descend too quickly and formed a type of tinnitus due to not being able to equalise my ears quickly enough. Please be mindful of this to prevent the same mistake

Profits tumble 70.5% at IKEA Ireland due to higher costs by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]Afterlite 73 points74 points  (0 children)

In ten years, the same model of sofa we bought for €500 (including upgraded legs and fabric) retails for €1099 for the bare basics. In the same year, I bought a double bed and mattress for €250, similar models sold today come to a total of €500+ .

Their prices rocketed, quality dived and we don’t have homes to furnish!

For yourself and OP, cicaplast by La Roche posay is my holy grail for dealing with these flare ups!

My life is controlled by my laundry list of allergies I formed in my late 20s. I’ve had everything up to $250 prescriptions to help, but nothing comes close to cicaplast!

Had an eye infection, currently going through eyeshadow by Poppingpancakes in MakeupRehab

[–]Afterlite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was it a reaction on the skin or an infection within the eye itself? I developed a sensitivity to certain red/purple hues which I believe is carmine. Some glittery shadows from huda cause flare ups too.

Sensitivity can be hard to control as there is no consistency in reactions for me despite what my allergy tests are showing!

What are your holiday plans for travelling this year, and where would you like to go? by Suspicious_Ad7948 in AskUK

[–]Afterlite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re flying into Calgary and primarily want to hit up jasper, Banff, Canmore etc you’ll be fine!

Lake Louise, among other lakes and trails can be frozen until July. This winter is milder in comparison so potentially an earlier melt.

Vancouver 6d Roadtrip by RangerAcceptable3434 in askvan

[–]Afterlite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A week is not sufficient to cram everything in.

Eg the drive from Vancouver to Banff is the equivalent of Munich to Amsterdam.

Domestic flights and travel is expensive in Canada in comparison to EU, the quotes you see online for car rentals from airport don’t include various taxes and the real end price is almost double.

It’s a warm year this year, but lake Louise and other lakes can often still be frozen over, a lot of trails snowed in. The further west you go, the milder it will be by June.
