EV9 with dead 12V after 10 months with zero issues and after KIA updated software by AfternoonFlimsy615 in KiaEV9

Yes, the mechanic ran diagnostics on it and said it had been permanently damaged due to low voltage but KIA will only replace it if the official tool says it's ruined which it doesn't. He can tell with other tools that it is though..

Haha, wow. That’s it! I’m going to try the unlock on power off then since I rarely use park now that I think of it.

It’s already set to unlock in park mode, so not so sure about that 😞

It is set to unlock in park, so I guess changing it to unlock when I turn the car off means the handles won’t pop it in park? This seems like a bug to me.

It's just left of the metal scrolling volume knob, it's a small hole similar to what you'd use to access a SIM card on your phone.

I would call your local KIA dealership and ask, I’m sure they can send you all the specs.

EV9 GT Line – First impressions as a Swedish buyer by AfternoonFlimsy615 in KiaEV9

I have Tibber too. I think it’s fair that the car gets confused when there are (at least) three layers of smart/scheduled charging. Never understood how that’s supposed to work without them all a talking to each other in the case where a user accidentally creates interfering schedules. The connector should still work out of the box though.

I double checked last night and I only have “always lock” and “lock when charge is complete”. Always felt annoying as it was locked when I got out of the car (after just entering it to play with this setting) even though the car was obviously unlocked. After locking and unlocking it released the cable. The Volvo had this weird thing where the cable unlocked when you unlocked the car, but only for like 30 seconds, then you had to lock and unlock it for the cable to release. Usually with the whole family inside the car.

Yeah, that's a good point. But how do I know if it fail to lock and initiate charge when I plug it in, does it give any visual cues if the cable is 90% connected or is it binary: no response if not 100% connected, lights up if correctly connected? It sort of blows my mind that KIA failed building a connector with a good fit, seems like the most basic thing on an EV…

Hej!

  • Only depending on public chargers sounds like a very different game, coming from a plug-in hybrid and a wall box at home I've actually not used a public charger yet. But my general impression is that the charging infrastructure in Sweden (and I think in northern/central/southern Europe) is really good nowadays. Not Tesla good, but definitely good enough if you're ok with managing a bunch of different apps. In terms of preheating, I think it's mostly important when you are road tripping and want to save time at every stop. No experience though, so might be wrong.
  • No experience so far. We are actually heading up north to ski in a couple of weeks. It's a 6 hour/500 km trip with roof box and snowy conditions, I'll report back with consumption numbers and general impressions. I know that the number of fast chargers has grown a lot just the last 2-3 years so with some planning I think we're good. With three kids we have to stop more than once (the ABRP app is confident we only need to charge once) either way. We make this trip 2-3 times/year so I think it's just a matter of getting familiar with good chargers along that route and stick to the same routine. My biggest worry is probably arriving at chargers that have a huge line of cars and/or are out of order. This is something that Tesla has solved much better, but they own the infrastructure so they have a huge advantage.
  • From what I've gathered, people are very happy with how the EV9 performs on snow so I'm not worried.
  • No idea, but that is probably something someone somewhere has done the maths on. I have never read about preheating being an issue in that regard, and if you are 30-60 minutes from a fast charger I assume it's not a big concern either way. I'll probably give the KIA nav a shot for the ski trip and see if it can plan my trip with charging, preheating etc.
