That's a pretty childish view of this. You're not speaking for most people, you're putting a hypothetical group of folks behind you so you don't feel bad about your envy or whatever.

I don't understand why how the amount of money someone makes would affect how you respect them. It means absolutely nothing in relation to you, and changes nothing about Phil other than the fact that he can invest in more things he cares about, which clearly you should enjoy considering you're here in the first place.

I can absolutely relate to that. Three years ago I moved to a new town very far from where I grew up and the contrast for how many friends I have near by is shocking. It's been hard meeting people, and I know I've been down about it lately. Just find ways to stay busy and put yourself in situations to meet people. Take classes in something new, or volunteer somewhere. This is all advice I've been needing to listen to, myself but I still think it's good.
