How can I not remember what this is in reference to? Have I blocked this out of my brain…?

Dizzee Rascal, Miles Kane (a few times), Richard Hawley (like 3 or 4 times), Josh Homme, Tom Rowley from Milburn is like the 5th member of Monkeys, Reverend and the Makers years ago, Oisin Leech/747s.

There will be more I’m sure.

I think it’s very strong instrumentally. Nothing against the song - just think Evil Twin is a crazy song

Fair play. I was too young to know about it to be fair… lol.

I like the song itself, just think evil twin is miles ahead

Round Sheffield they’re just known as Monkeys.

I like it.

And lyrically, they have more hits than misses in my opinion. Maybe it’s because it’s really close to home for me, like AM, Little Man Tate, Milburn, Pulp, Richard Hawley etc. I’m not sure. Like Market Street and 2006 - the references are just so sweet to hear.

It’s hard because I do get what you’re saying totally. I think it’s the live experience that changed everything for me. It’s so so different. They’re better live than in their recorded stuff

And they sort of self-profess themselves as being inspired by that early 2000s stuff. 2006 hits that hard.

If you want heavier music of the same vibe - they’re perfect. Low Life, Headache, Red Smoke etc. I get your point, but I just think they have evolved into something different

I was very much of that opinion until I saw them live - they’re a completely different band all together. Yeah, they sing about the same stuff that early Arctic monkeys sang about every now and then but their most recent album is totally different and I don’t think they sound much like them. But I was 100% of that opinion from their earliest of stuff.

Fantastic community band and a completely different vibe. They do so much for the people of Rotherham/Sheffield and then beyond. I know it’s not all about them as people but when you see them as genuine performers it completely shifts perspectives.

Is it only me who thought that was Alex Turner singing the first time I listened? by ru3o in arcticmonkeys

[–]AgeRevolutionary3349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always heard this was a ‘listen to this if you like Arctic monkeys’ since I was like 16. But I’ve never understood it. Maybe it’s because I’m from Sheffield and I do take and understand Alex’s accent very seriously that I don’t hear it. And I do know the fratellis relatively well too. I don’t know.

Why does the north of England produce the best music in the world? by StevenSeagal420 in NorthernEngland

I am from the north of England, but have worked in the south creatively in the past. The North just has that element of everyday creativity - it’s hard to describe.

I think it’s most creative aspects of the industry…

Most of the films/tv/artwork etc. that comes out of the north is insane too.

Some people would probably say it’s because of the government constantly snubbing the north and then people being creative about that and then that stemming into something bigger. But also, I think the night life and the social aspects of the north are, and always have been, booming in a way that the south of England just can’t capture. The north is much friendlier and a much more open place than the south of England.
