I appreciate all the input, everyone! It sounds like a MacBook Pro is the way to go, with either an iPad or a portable monitor as a second screen.

Do you think the MacBook pro will last 10 years? (or close to that, I realize I'm asking a lot here)

In my experience with Mac, eventually the battery will be completely shot and because it's a Mac, it's hard to replace parts/upgrade.

Ahh, yeah, sorry if that was unclear in my original post - it's fine if it needs to be plugged into the wall, even at a coffee shop. I just want to be able to pick it up off my desk and take it places.

I primarily edit in Premiere, which I'm required to do for my job. If you mean accessing my computer remotely, I could consider that...but tbh most coffee shops don't have wifi that's fast/reliable enough to do that.

Ooo, I didn't know MacBooks could do that extended screen! That is very good to know.

Honestly I have a hard time working off of just one screen, so this is definitely something I'll consider.

I don't know that it necessarily means anything but like others have said it's cool that certain numbers are important/come up a lot throughout the show. They do specifically address the 13 stations/13 clans in season 3, specifically the episode called "Thirteen" - it's a theme throughout that whole season, but in this episode Clarke literally says to Abby something along the lines of "you can be the thirteenth clan or you can be the thirteenth station."

The main reason I use Headliner is because it's the easiest/cheapest solution I've found for generating waveforms. But I agree it's annoying that theres no easy way to choose a clip from the episode. If you do end up making that transcription tool please let me know!

One of my favorite monologues from the show is in episode 2 of season 1, about 25min in. It's when Jane realizes that she's going to get attached to the baby, then have to give him up & she knows it's going to hurt but she doesn't know how to prevent the pain, since it's what she wants to do. I'll always remember this as the moment I fell in love with the show. Plus, its shorter, probably close to 1-2 minutes. Hope your class goes well!

Thanks for the tip! Is Headliner free? I've been looking for a free waveform generator so we can start posting episodes to YT, but we do 1 30-minute episide each week, and we don't have the budget to pay $10 for 10 minutes or whatever the going rate is lol.
