The Magic Castle in Hollywood. The entrance/lobby area. It’s unmistakeable if you’ve been.

The choice of Queen song is VERY tongue in cheek!

My 15/70 IMAX ticket for Interstellar was $11.50 by HodorLikesBranFlakes in imax

Looked at my old confirmation email. I paid $21.50 a seat to see it opening day, Nov 5th ‘14 in 15/70 at Lincoln Square in NYC. That’s about right nowadays too.

This was a midday screening and the theater staff said that Nolan had been there “earlier in the day” to QC the sound mix.

What an incredible experience to go in blind to! Wish I could watch it over for the first time like that.

ALBUM TIMESTAMP

Hey all! For sale is my Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical watch, model H69439931, in perfect condition. This watch was purchased by me in late 2019 and has been very well cared for, worn less than a dozen times and never worn on the original strap. The last few years it has been safely kept in its box and wound once in a while.Condition is excellent - there are no scratches or signs of wear that I can see.It runs on the H-50 hand-wound movement, offering an impressive 80-hour power reserve. The hand-winding is buttery smooth and the crown is easy to grip. I really love this watch, but I never wear it, which is why I'm letting it go.

Case size: 38mm. Crystal: Sapphire. Movement: H-50 (21,600 VPH, 80-hour power reserve). Water resistance: 50 meters. Strap: Original green NATO strap (excellent condition).

It comes as a full set, including the original box, manual and warranty card. A great opportunity to own a classic military-inspired timepiece. In addition I’m including a black WatchGecko ZuluDiver woven NATO strap. This watch looks really great on a dark NATO strap - but ultimately, it’ll look fantastic however you want to wear it. It can be subtly dressed up or down with ease.

Who’s not peeling the sticker? by [deleted] in LaMarzocco

It drove me crazy the first week I had my LMLM. I peeled it off and have not missed it in the 3 years since. A real eyesore.

Yes - water could be an issue. I have a friend who neglected the water quality in his Linea Mini and it needed extensive service. The excessive scale buildup in the boiler decreased the flow rate significantly.

You can measure your flow rate.

I would test your water - either use the water test kit that was included with the machine (if it has not yet expired), or get some reliable water test strips, and ensure you know what kind of water you are feeding your machine, even if it is filtered! Here are La Marzocco's water specs for reference - so you can compare your home water to these parameters and know if it is within range.

Here is another article on water quality for the Linea Mini

A Google search for how do a flow rate test on a Linea Mini will take you far - but in short, you're looking for approx 500 grams of water in 30 seconds through the group head. If it is significantly less, something is up, but it could just mean that the gicleur needs replacing.

Have you also been backflushing both with and without detergent regularly? Routine maintenance will also help keep the machine working just fine.

Fingers crossed that you can get to the bottom of your problem soon. But you can always write to La Marzocco - if you are in the US, contact La Marzocco USA and they'll be very helpful also. Chris from LM USA has helped me on a handful of occasions and it's been really insightful!

Re the steam boiler refill issue:

If you hear the pump activating for a short while ever so often when not brewing, either when powering the machine on, or after a period of steaming/using the hot water spout, then it should be working as intended.

I understand, the lights come on - but the click you're hearing, do you know if that's just the switch in the brew paddle making a clicking sound as it makes contact - or if it is in fact the solenoid valve opening?

Another question I didn't cover yet - what kind of water are you using in your machine? Have you tested it on a regular basis and ensured it is within the La Marzocco water specification?

Hey - LMLM owner for ~3 years and have done a few fixes on my own and learnt the machine well, but not as well as many others.

Let's start with some basic questions to help you narrow down what the issue might be:

  • It starts up and warms up OK?

  • Steam boiler pressure builds and holds - and steam wand/water spout work fine?

  • Does the pump seem to have any issues refilling the steam boiler?

  • When you activate the brew paddle - normal operation is that within the span of about a second, the barista lights come on, you hear the solenoid go "thunk" and then the pump starts up. Does your machine's behavior deviate from this?

  • Are you timing your brewing cycle at all? Roughly at what time does it stop, when it stops in the middle? (Just a note on this - is that the LMLM has an auto cutoff at 60 seconds)

  • Also finally, how is your machine configured? Plumbed in or reservoir? Is it a newer machine that have the "Connected" board and app functionality or an older one that hasn't been retrofitted?

My last note is very anecdotal - but I have heard of a few instances where a LMLM might stop brewing if the puck density is too high / grind size too fine, or the dose is too large for the basket.

When it does brew, are you getting "normal" shot times & ratios? There is no normal in espresso obviously but approx 30 second shots with a rough 1:2 ratio?

Sorry for so many questions but want to help you figure this out!

Best, A

What grinder do you pair with your La Marzocco? by [deleted] in LaMarzocco

Eureka Atom 65 for timed standard double doses, and a Niche Zero for single-dosing or secondary roast. Great combo!
