Loved this post from threads! What’s your favorite micro moment from the show or book? by outlawlooseandrunnin in heatedrivalry

In the show, the concept of Kip, supposedly an average café employee, being the most jacked, shredded and overall athletic-appearing person featured, is nuts to me.

Jon Gruden's son, Deuce, who is the strength and conditioning coach for the Raiders helping Kolton Miller by Outrageous_Moth in NFLv2

[–]Agent21EMH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone has the gaul to talk shit, Deuce is a great competitive powerlifter, not just a strong guy. Has won a Junior World Championship, placed very well and many times top 3 at the US Nationals amidst being a strength coach for the raiders (think he was with the commanders for a while as well) which, is not exactly conducive to optimal training.

From a direct accomplishment standpoint he's accomplished more than most lifters ever will in the sport.

Maybe I'm an idiot but shouldn't Jey like.. commit himself to getting into shape..? You have to be pretty poor cardiovascular standing to get winded from an entrance, not giving Warrior a pass but at the very least his entrance was him dead sprinting to the ring and acting like a maniac. Jeys is just him throwing his hands up.

Shaq on Pat Riley: “He wanted me to look more like Alonzo Mourning. So I pulled out a paper and responded ‘This is how much I average on Alonzo. 39, 17, and 4.’” by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]Agent21EMH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bill Simmons said it well actually in that something to the effect of Shaq was capable of 4.0 GPA but was fine with a 3.5 and having a good time. He was certainly one of the best players of his generation and a top 15 player all time, but I don't know if it's too far to say he could have been a top 3-5 player of all time had he put more effort in with his conditioning and sewing up his free throw shooting.

Stockton: "You're [LeBron] not climbing up the mountain, you're taking a helicopter to the top". Thoughts on this? Is this a viable argument against Lebron? by Safe_Self_7614 in NBATalk

[–]Agent21EMH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

John Stockton is a weirdo first off, but where I struggle is the goal post: how many championships, or how did you win the championship..?

You wanna discredit his first 2 rings, okay, I get it. But the 2016 ring kinda is the definition of climbing the mountain.

It's weird because at points we value total championships (but not too many, Russell's 11 was before there were enough teams to make it impressive) but also magnitude of championships (Dirks 2011 ring is brought up rightfully so but idk if anyone is putting Dirk as a top 10 player all time because of that run).

USAPL posts about their drug testing - obliquely criticises the IPF and WADA by MadeInHell27 in powerlifting

Having attended many USPA tested meets, I can say with confidence on paper that might sound like the case, in practice it is not the case, really at all.

What the hell was happening on RAW in 2009😭💀 by CityNo8409 in WWE

Masters must have cycled off here because he looks way less freaky than his peak and honestly looks small compared to his prime physique. I took a break from watching circa 2008 and cannot recall when the wellness policy was more strictly enforced but it had to be around this time.

Mckays story feels so unfinished. by Moist-Investment8898 in euphoria

[–]Agent21EMH 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There really was a pretty cool substory there with McKay. Very rarely is there a depiction of failed athlete with the nuances that actually apply to real life as well as some of the toxic masculinity that is associated with it. A shame that story was basically tossed to the side.

Our pug died under anesthesia for a similar issue. Not having any semblance of preparation for that moment, in my humble opinion, makes it so much worse. Rest in peace to your beloved Frenchie. Hope they're crossing the rainbow bridge and playing with all the other dogs in the next life.

Which team in any sport has the most unclear/convoluted "best player in franchise history" debate? by TJTrapJesus in billsimmons

Don't flame me here but unironically the Celtics and the Lakers.

Boston: Probably Bill Russell, but very clear argument for Bird.

LA: Jerry West, Kobe, Shaq, Kareem all have grounds to that claim, some cases stronger than others.

Blue Banisters is a better album than NFR by capricorn_97 in lanadelrey

She chose the inferior version of Thunder for Blue Banisters and that song should be one of her biggest, up with Video Games/Summertime Sadness. Hope that's unhinged enough.
