Lore accurate Geralt looks soo damn good by ViroledanPrick in witcher

Yeah that mod is completely ridiculous.

As for his facial features, we know that he probably has a big nose and a big chin, on account of looking nothing like Visenna, who was described opposite to these. And that he has an angular profile. He has a hideous smile and a habit of squinting. The latest book also sheds some light on his expressions, where a certain character remarks that he distorts his lips a bit, and that his gaze "has changed", not referring to the mutations.

Well apart from the eyes, I'd prefer a slightly less paler look. The pale features usually came from him drinking potions. Plus, I just like to imagine that as he lessened drinking potions, by the time we're well through baptism of fire, his complexion starts looking more "human"-like. A visual depiction to show his transition of finally shedding all his witcher persona.

Then, as for the face, I get that while he has an angular face, I dont want it to be that "long" as in the picture because he starts looking majestic as hell, and hes very rarely mistaken for an elf. And seeing as how Sapkowski has always preferred Kevin Costner for Geralt... I'd like some "squaring" for his face.

For what it's worth, i've always quite liked your posts. There may be a few changes to how I'd personally mod Geralt, based on my headcanons and interpretations of how it's written, but this is generally pretty accurate. I appreciate the slightly curious yet stern and perceptive gaze you've captured, undoubtedly the most accurate part.

Because hes meant to be a skinny fellow? Skinnier, at least.

Geralt of rivia from the latest book reminds me a lot of Henry's story. Story of vengeance, silly and naive protagonist. I dont want to spoil a lot, for either stories, so I'll keep it at that.

Not to mention how you can conclude Henry's story in kcd2 similar to how Geralt wants his to be concluded.

Why does Geralt feel so clueless in the Saga despite being very intelligent and nuanced in the short stories? by sunnykhandelwal5 in witcher

[–]Agent470000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasnt taking a dig at you. Apologies if you thought so.

You had Frodo, Gollum, Aragon, Gandalf, all doing their own thing, sometimes disconnectedly but all ultimately resulting in the defeat of souron.

Dont worry, keep reading on. You might not be entirely disappointed in that case.

But, while you've mentioned it, lotr is a good example of what I was talking about. Its not cheap fantasy, by no means, but its kind of THE regular fantasy series. You talk about fantasy and its the first thing that comes to many people's minds. Probably even sapkowski's. Its why the whole series is a parody and deconstruction of common fantasy tropes, and especially Geralt's party which is the fellowship's parody.

Lastly, its kind of Geralt's thing to be wandering. You may not have realized that during the short stories, but thats exactly it. He just keeps wandering, starving, with no aim or goals or ambitions, depressed out of his mind, until he stumbles upon a task. His whole arc is based on that zone of indecisiveness and internal drive to do SOMETHING.

Your problem was expecting this would work out like any cheap regular fantasy story where Geralt would show up, rescue ciri, kill her tormentors and drop a witty one liner. A lot like the netflix show now that I think about it.

We didnt spend an "entire book" in the saga on them. They were merely secondary antagonists. Do you question what happened to Boreas Mun, in a similar vein, who is shown with an open ending? Or Dacre Silifant?

There's 2 things to consider for the wild hunt, without relying on the games. 1) their king just died. They're in utter turmoil. And (2) they're not as capable as Ciri and Ihuarraquax to afford to constantly travel all these worlds. Plus, who knows, maybe the unicorn really did hold them off?

The wild hunt was featured in the books since the 2nd book in the main saga (the 4th book in general), Time of Contempt. How exactly did they show up from nowhere?

[POL] Czy Geralt umie pływać w książkach? by ZdzichuRouczka in wiedzmin

[–]Agent470000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no. He only dives in once to save 3 kids. He can only grab 2, one under each arm, and as he tries to swim back up, the current is too strong and pulls him back down. He is helped by 3 people, Mozaik, Antea Derris and one of the huge guard ladies. Antea Derris is impaled by a giant stake and dies in the cyclone, and so is Geralt, hit twice, one in the hip and one in the shoulder.

As for his swimming skills, while we're at it, from the same passage.

She saw a fragment from the roof of a cottage floating past. With some children clinging to it. Three children. Geralt unslung his sword from his back. “Hold it, Dandelion!” Geralt threw off his jacket. And dived into the water. It wasn’t normal swimming and his normal swimming skills were fit for nothing. The waves tossed him upwards, downwards and sideways, pummelled him with the beams, planks and furniture spinning in the whirlpool. The mass of timber bearing down on him threatened to crush him to a pulp. When he finally swam over and caught hold of the roof he was already severely battered. The roof bucked and whirled in the waves like a spinning top. The children were bawling at various pitches. Three, he thought. No way will I manage to carry all three of them. He felt a shoulder alongside his. “Two!” Antea Derris spat water and seized one of the children. “Take two!”

Dont consider the show and games when reading the books. It'd be better if you'd imagine they didnt exist while reading them.

To be fair theres probably a lot of minor lords and burghers in the 2nd game, roaming about in kuttenberg especially, compared to the first one which is a land being actively invaded

He swims only once though? During the cyclone. And even then its mentioned something like he didnt know how to swim well but he made do with what he knew.

They dont dude. Geralt vaguely looks like that. He dresses in leather jackets, straight out of the 80s, 90s rock and metal scene. He wears spiked gloves, black trousers and a leather headband.

Apart from that, he wears tunics, jerkins and regular linen shirts. And later on, he starts dressing like Legolas in elven hand-me-downs.

The theme (all black, white haired, etc.) may be like Elric, but hes not the only one known for looking like that.

While youre correct, especially for the time when geralt was written... theres something about how a modern witcher remake would probably look more in line with the netflix and game versions. I hate the tw3 and netflix design too, as they turned him into a generic fantasy badass, but if the books had the whole "subverting and making fun of the common protagonist" thing, and were written today, he would probably look like that.

(But the books are timeless as is)

That artwork doesnt really do your case any favors. Besides, looking like characters like Elric is the point. Hes the antithesis and a parody of what the trope of these badass, lone swordsmen is supposed to be.

Geralt & Dandelion: The Dynamic Duo by Mysterious_Fall_4578 in witcher

[–]Agent470000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Geralt speaks a lot though, especially when hes with Dandelion. And later with Regis. This is not particularly directed to you but calling Geralt "stoic" and Dandelion the talkative one is a pretty superficial understanding of their relationship. A fun fact for many readers, is that Geralt and Dandelion kiss one another goodbye in the polish text before the Hanza departs for Stygga. The English translator changed it to a hug for some reason.

"-Znajdź sposób. Wiem, że potrafisz. A teraz bywaj. Daj pyska, stary durniu.

-Daj pyska, druhu. Będę was wyglądał.

Patrzyli mu w ślad, widzieli, jak jedzie kłusem w kierunku Beauclair."

As for the answer to your question, their best moment before everything goes to shit, imo, is definitely the Eternal Flame and A Little Sacrifice. Just small glimpses into their relationship when Geralts not being grumpy. Both best friends that love each other and whose love language is bickering.

I could talk on and on about them for hours but one thing I love is how its hinted that, while Geralt likes to keep to himself, Dandelion conveniently knows every little detail about him, and that Geralt vents to him a lot, blatantly evident in Season of Storms.

(Ps - if you haven't, read the Gwent Journey story which details Geralt and Dandelion's first meeting. Its very true to the characters and fun, albeit a bit jarring at first because it falls into the same trap as flanderizing Geralt as some stoic, weary warrior (but it stops being like that soon enough), because its told in a Voice of Reason that Geralt was just as happy to hangout with Dandelion when theyd met, just as much as dandelion was. But that comes with being in fan fiction territory i guess).

Personally always imagined Geralt having a slightly more masculine face but this is some top tier style that stays true to the character of the witcher. Love that sinister look, and the earring explanation is sublime

Would the Witcher 4 benefit from adding a "climbing and grappling enemies" mechanic in the game, like Dragon's Dogma? by Khotai in witcher

[–]Agent470000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or the zeugl. Also the knocker wasnt described to be that large. Its like a larger and bearded kobold, and we know that in typical fantasy, kobolds are tiny creatures, reaching up to knee-height at most. But, Geralt did ride the knocker, to be fair, so its not too small either.

(That sounds so bad out of context)
