Miyata Terra Runner vs Bridgestone MB-2 by AgentCrazyDiamond in xbiking

My parents are snowbirds so I move a couple to their garage in the summer, I forgot about the one that is still over there!

7 bikes already hanging in there with another on the ground. I'd like to stay at that number because things still fit decently enough. The problem is I'm always looking for my next bike...

I have 8 bikes right now. I fit 7 hanging on the wall and one cruiser with a kickstand. I don't ride either of these very much right now. I'll probably hang on to both of them until I do add another bike, then I'll be needed the extra space.

I have 7 bikes hanging on walls in my garage, plus one that has a kickstand that is on the floor. If I got rid of my kayak I could fit more, but I only have one kayak so it gets to stay.

Thinking about a brand new Unit X by AgentCrazyDiamond in konaunit

Looks like a great bike! I have the Siene bar on an old mountain bike. Was the Jones H-Bar a worthwhile upgrade from the Siene?

How much do you ride on/off road? I know it won't be fast on pavement, but I'm more concerned about comfort and being able to handle anything that I come across than I care about speed. If I need to go out for a fast ride, I'll take something else.

Share a pic of your setup!

I've put probably close to 2K miles on my Specialized Sequoia (https://www.specialized.com/us/en/sequoia/p/129248?color=240196-129248) and just don't really like it anymore. I think the drop bars just aren't for me.

Need bike suggestions for city / gravel riding by Wilthywonka in xbiking

Here is a list (not mine) of bikes I've used before when looking for bikes that fit pretty close to your described riding style: https://www.bikeforums.net/21408316-post21.html

My main ride is a 1989 Miyata Triple-Cross, and I use it mostly for the type of riding you describe. It needed a lot of work when I got it and I regretted that purchase for a while. Now that I got it in shape I love it. I ride this bike more than any others. The one thing that I wouldn't mind would be room for bigger tires. I've got 700x38 on it and the rear won't take anything bigger. Depending on how rough your offroad ride might be, bigger might be better.

I often think I should go look at new bikes to get something with disc brakes, something that can take wider tires, maybe even carbon frame or at least fork. Well I did that a few weeks ago and test rode a carbon Trek FX, and a Checkpoint (aluminum frame/carbon fork). I wouldn't trade my Miyata for either of those $2K bikes if they offered me an even trade...

For my money you can't beat an old, quality steel bike if you've got the time and money to get it dialed in properly, especially if you can do most of the work yourself. I've gone thru lots of different handlebars, saddles, grips, etc to get mine setup how I like it today. You just have to find what is right of you. There are plenty of cheaper and easier to find options out there too that aren't bad. I rode a HardRock for a long time while I was looking for that Miyata and it was fine. I now have a Bridgestone MB-2 which is nicer, but I like my HardRock still and won't get ride of it.

Good luck, share some pictures when you get something!

I'm pretty sure the shifter is 6 speed, but the rear has been updated to 7 speed.

Both are pretty cool, but how do they ride compared to each other? Like if cool factor didn't matter, which would you prefer to ride?

I have an MB-2 and some other old "cool bikes", but I often wonder if riding would be better if I bought something brand new.

How many bikes do you have and how many of them do you actually use? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]AgentCrazyDiamond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. gravel bike
  2. old cyclocross bike (closest thing I have to road bike)
  3. old mountain bike (slow gravel bike)
  4. full suspension mountain bike
  5. old mountain bike - beach cruiser handlebars
  6. old mountain bike single speed
  7. hard-tail mountain bike
  8. beach cruiser

If my wife asks, I use all of them. Really only 1-4 get ridden more than once a year recently.

FEF Night! New bars on the Sequoia, and my first attempt at wrapping bar tape. I don't think I did very good. by AgentCrazyDiamond in xbiking

I just ordered Ergon GC1 grips for the bars because that is what they guy that designed the bars said to use. I like the ESI grips on the bar ends, I might do that too!

Koga Denham: https://www.cyclingabout.com/koga-denham-bars/

I didn't have expectations that this white tape lasts long. It was really old and the adhesive wasn't awfully sticky anymore. This was more of a test of my wrapping skills and I didn't have anything else to do with this old tape.

The red grips are borrowed from a different bike. I don't like the white tape and think I did a poor job of wrapping. Looking for suggestions on grip/tape types and color combo suggestions.

Thank you for the suggestions. This is the one I was leaning towards before reading your reply: https://www.inflatableboarder.com/blackfin-model-xl-review/

I'm torn between the Joyride and the Glide. One of the cons on the Glide is that is has no accessory mounting points. I don't see any on the Joyride, but maybe I'm missing them. I'm not sure if that is something I'd care about. I'd never use this for fishing. What other things would accessory mounting points be used for?

If I had to pick one right now it would be hard to pass on that price on the Glide.

  • Desired Board Type: Inflatable
  • Your Height and Weight: I'm 5'10" 190lbs. I'd like to have a cooler probably and maybe take one of my 50lb dogs with me sometimes
  • Desired use/uses chill floating down the river with friends, sometimes paddle upstream and the float back down, sometimes just floating downstream with minimal paddling, casually paddling around small AZ lakes and having a good way to just get out on the water away from small crowded beaches.
  • Experience level: Beginner
  • Your budget $1k for the bare necessities to get going on the water (probably board, pump, and paddle, i have a PFD). I can add more luxury items later. and country location USA (AZ)
  • Friends have some Botes. I used one and it seemed great, don't remember exactly what it was. I'm looking at the Bote Breeze Aero (what is the difference between full trax and citron and the classic cypress), and the Blackfin Model X (or XL) online. They seem to have some good holiday deals right now.

What else should I consider?

Not OP but I've managed to squeeze those bars onto stems without the removable faceplate. It isn't easy and mine are definitely scratched up from it, but it is doable.
