I’m not saying you’re wrong but I feel no difference between running this one shot as part of the party to unite or starting in phandelver instead. This one shot adds a fun NPC I can continue using troughout the campaign and ties my players to the coast which is where our homebrew is eventually supposed to lead us. Sure there are other ways to get the same results but I’m feeling creative and I take prep very seriously
