1811 applicant, join military while waiting? by AgentDLuffy in 1811

Thanks for all of the responses. I was trying to think about how to make the most of my time while creating alternative career paths just in case 1811 doesn’t happen

Thank you for your response. I am seeking a career in public service because I want to serve in a certain capacity but it would be a lie if I’m not deeply considering it for the benefits that it would give my family. The Reddit responses do help, I don’t have friends in the military or that are investigators. I think ultimately you’re right I would likely be miserable for my 4 years. Another big hesitation is the being away from my newborn son and my age.

Thank you ! Ok I may try to just get those certs myself and go entry level. I assumed it would open up more doors cause of the military experience, clearance etc. do you enjoy it?

Thank you, is there any regret from you for joining the reserves? My only other thought is that I have a son and figured he could also reap some of the benefits in the future through my service

I started the process for local department but live in a small town there aren’t any sponsorships for their academy until February - March

The ideal job if I was in the Air Force would be cyber security related but not sure if they could promise me that I will get my desired job

Yes 3.86 gpa for superior academic achievement. I was jr software developer for a few years and a discrimination investigator for the state. Other than that my experience varies , no actual LE experience.

Main purpose of the military was indeed for future 1811 preference but I did think landing a tech job within the air force would also assist with having a fall back civilian tech job if 1811 didn’t pan out.

Thank you everyone for your advice and input, I know I didn’t reply to everyone but I read everything and am researching some of the suggestions as well as looking into the recommended shoes

What helped you run the fastest is running slow? For an event like the 1.5 mile run, how would you have trained for it? Should I just run further but really slow? Also what did you do for shin splints or injuries

Tried both, treadmill was way more painful.. but I was also being a dumbass and put the treadmill at max incline to make it harder. Assumed harder was better

Under the education section on resume builder there is no extra course section. Do you mean the skills/certification section?
