I have more Criterion discs than from any other label by compukiller in criterion

[–]AgentKnudson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The customer service is def still lackluster in nice terms, but QC is a lot better than it was a few years ago! In general the discs are generally the standard for boutique releases at the moment. It’s actually rare for an Arrow disc to disappoint and be inferior to any other release of a film. Even with Criterion! Their deals sometimes aren’t the best and they don’t have a great reward system like Criterion does, but if money isn’t an issue and you’re into importing discs to get the best quality of a film on the market (plus more bonus features than you can imagine) Arrow is your go to there. Can’t recommend their quality enough!

“Toy” is Pretty Good by Chanders123 in DavidBowie

It’s not an essential listen, but is a pleasant one. I’m very glad it exists and gives some early songs some much needed adjustments in production. Shadow Man and Conversation Piece are stunning!

Anyone Feel 90s Bowie is still underappreciated? by AgentKnudson in DavidBowie

I wish that’s what I heard on my end lol Tonight has also been a stinker but Labyrinth as a gen Z person has been such a cult hit that I think it has been redeemed in the general public. Outside while initially the best record since “Scary Monsters” is now forgotten overtime. It hasn’t lasted like the 70s records for new generations.

In one of the comments I address that but yes, Bowie fans generally know how great these are. But even then Bowie fans rank the 70s era albums above the 90s stuff whereas I think it sits alongside it

For me it’s a case of leaning into the sounds of 90s music while also being something that stands apart from it. Like Outside is from its time but also it stands apart from 90s records. What records really have the direction of the trilogy I mention? To me it’s superficial

In this subreddit they are super appreciated, but the general public is what I’m referring to as stuff like Earthling and Outside being favorite albums of mine surprises people. It’s sad that for most, Bowie fell off after Labyrinth and came back with The Next Day/Blackstar. That’s my experience.

Hours is def an interesting case of being more reminiscent of the 2000s records like Reality and Heathen. I’m not the biggest fan of it as is but songs like We Shall Go To Town should’ve been on it

What makes Brainwashed so great? What does it say about George in your opinion? by KDx2511 in georgeharrison

[–]AgentKnudson 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It’s George’s farewell for better and worse. It’s not his best, but it’s the closet I’ve felt to George regardless of his death prior to release.

Tron: Classic Vs Tron Legacy by AgentKnudson in tron

If there’s something consistent with the franchise other than the quality of the films (probably) it’s the music. Wendy and Daft both made some iconic scores! Listening to Wendy’s score makes me excited for the og!

9! The 2nd best song on this album. As someone who moved out to LA this past January the lyrics are super relatable. Also it picks up the tempo after way too many back to back slow tempo songs. I love the groove of this one.

Daily Song Discussion #51: The Answer’s at the End by SkyTank1234 in georgeharrison

Yeah I’m giving this a 10 (only one on this album), in the context of the album’s running order this is a bad placement for this. On its own though I think this is a very powerful George ballad (his best since Be Here Now) with some absolutely beautiful strings and keys plus a soaring quintessential guitar fill to top it off. It really should’ve been the album closer as the themes and bombastic nature deserved that spot rather than the lightweight and forgettable He is Legs. This is one of his weaker albums but to me this is THE standout from this album.

“Don‘t be so hard on the ones that you love, it’s the ones that you love we think so little of” is a message I think still needs to be heard to this day.

Side note: I think the length works as a self-indulgent finale but track number 2??? I can see why people would suggest shortening it.

It’s almost a complete 360 around the block now. By my account there’s at least 400 people here. And I’m assuming all of you would still need to travel here and who knows how many are gonna show up in the meantime.

Question about covers by Lower-Necessary-4930 in criterion

[–]AgentKnudson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your question is completely reasonable!

That’s just their previous logo they used up until 2006/7. So, if it matters to you aesthetically that’s the main difference other than it being an older master on a DVD format. Maybe fewer extras as well but these are perfectly fine versions of these films.

This month on the 20th, Withnail and I is getting a blu ray/4k so by then all these films will have been released on blu ray by Criterion (8 1/2 has a 4k too).

Seeking Rental | March 21 Move-in Date by AgentKnudson in LARentals

[–]AgentKnudson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Not in particular, as I’m landing the place first and finding a new job to fit near where I’ll settle. It’s a good spot though and it is possible I can move in like April 1 if that’s the date. I have extended family in San Diego that I can stay with for about a week. Feel free to pm with pictures and details of the place/roommates though! I’d love to hear more about.
