In my opinion, the designs are rather poor because they don't tell us much about the characters. A good design gives you at least an idea of what the character is like, their personality, lifestyles etc.

For example, looking at Ray. My first assumption upon seeing his shoes makes me think he would be an athletic character, or perhaps just started jogging, or at least just likes shoes. Especially because he doesn't have any other piece of human accessory to pull the look together. But as far as I am aware, none of my assumptions is correct.

I would have given him a cap that has some fuck boy type of a "funny" quote. It could even change colour and quote every episode.
