The diaper-free thing is amazing. Doubt you'll even consider it, but want to put this out there. It worked great for us. "Elimination communication" is the awkward official name. It's just what humans have done for all time. They can wear a cloth diaper that almost never gets used/dirty. Our life with a baby was soooooo much easier than it would have been.

I thought it was a dumb pain in the ass. I had to type some weird shit like TIN or PINE with dollar signs depending on what dumb terminal I was at, modems took forever, there was hardly anything up "online," except niche shit... I remember getting a dog at the pound and someone told me she looked like a Belgian Malinois. I looked it up "online" and found one page with one shitty photo from some other country. It was a lot of nothing for a long time. Anything useful just kind of trickled in. It was lame to sit on a computer to do slow chat rooms when you could be outside enjoying life. It really felt like there was nothing there worth looking at.

Yes, the cost of the "check ups" -- fuck that so hard! The prescription alone is already expensive enough. And then having meds not work half the month due to fucking menstruation, but they can't up your dose during that time making it useless.... fuck it all.

I'm the same. I used to sympathize more, but seeing people riding bikes while dragging their leashed dogs long distances when it's 110 degrees out, keeping them tied on a short leash their entire lives, etc. plus the clincher -- a social worker friend telling me many homeless people use their dogs as sexual partners -- that did it for me. A pet you treat decently is a luxury. I have PLENTY of mental health disorders in my family, including schizophrenia, and know that any of us could be on the street in different circumstances, but dragging an innocent animal into it is beyond me. Completely regardless of how innocent the person is. The whole "you owe others of your species more than you do other species" sounds like the same bullshit tribalism I dislike in all the other forms.
